Before the Knesset disperses: send an email now urging the Knesset to enact the Bill Prohibiting the Consumption of Prostitution.
Dear 119 Activist,
Yesterday, the Israel government called for early (April 2019) elections and to disband the current Knesset. During the past eleven years we have worked to secure legislation prohibiting the consumption of prostitution, we have, unfortunately, become nearly accustomed to such political-parliamentary developments. So, this time, we remain hopeful we still have the opportunity to pass this bill yet this week.
This morning, the Knesset’s Law, Constitution and Justice Committee will convene to approve the bill to be brought to the Knesset floor for a final vote. In addition, the Director of the Ministry of Justice is expected to update the Committee that additional funding will be approved for 2019 to enable the rehabilitation of survivors of prostitution.
However, as you read this, the Knesset is expected to disperse THIS Wednesday. Therefore, we ask you to write to Knesset members today urging they give priority to this bill and push for the vote to take place today. Thus, survivors of prostitution will pay the price for its delayed passage and thousands more women and men will not fall victim to the exploitation of prostitution. Therefore, we are doing everything conceivable in the next forty-eight hours to see the legislation enacted without further delay. All this notwithstanding, as the bill passed its first reading two months ago, even were it now not approved in this Knesset, we shall continue working for its passage early in the next Knesset term.
