Happy and healthy 2019! We are looking forward to another year full of exploring, growing, learning, tinkering, exciting events and beautiful moments with you.

This seventh edition of our quarterly newsletter from the GIG network features reports from Ghana, the Philippines, Jordan, Brazil, Germany, South Sudan, the USA, France and Mali.

re:publica Accra took place on December 14-15, 2018. It was joined by 2000 participants and a great success thanks to excellent programming and the great community spirit. GIG was presented through Nanjira Sambuli, Kudzai M Mubaiwa and Jorge Appiah as members of the curation team as well as numerous stage sessions and a makerspace hosted by Kumasi Hive. >> Read more on our blog.

Is Peace a Commons?

Instituto Procomum launched a magazine with reports and reflections about the role of citizen innovation labs for peace, based on concrete experiences in post-conflict Colombia. It's available for download in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Read more on our blog.

German African Entrepreneurship Summit in Ghana

The German African Entrepreneurship Summit in Ghana will take place on February 11-13 in Accra, Ghana. The event will be almost entirely curated by the i4Policy community. There will be a big focus on policy throughout, and a track on the i4Policy manifesto! The Summit (GAES) will bring together 150 representatives of the Pan-African entrepreneurship ecosystem to learn from each other and leverage on their experiences and creativity to re-evaluate and define the future of entrepreneurship in Africa. 

GIG @35C3

The Chaos Communication Congress is an annual conference organized by the Chaos Computer Club, Europe’s largest association of hackers. We want to make sure international perspectives are represented at 35C3. Hence, GIG has been participating at CCC events over the last years and trying to work with its members and CCC to support greater international representation. Read more on our blog!

Malian in Diaspora of the Year 2018

Youssouf Simbo Diakite, founder and CEO at African Diaspora Youth Forum in Europe was awarded the Mali Entrepreneurship and Engagement Award in the category Malian in Diaspora of the Year 2018. Read more on our blog.

The Incubator’s Guide For Building Community

If you run a hub, manage an incubator or are looking to start one, especially in Africa, you are most likely motivated by the need to curb unemployment, solve urgent problems and help others turn good ideas into successful companies. Ecosystem event coming up:  Le Grand Barouf Numérique

The Ouishare community is co-organzing Le Grand Barouf Numérique, discussing digital policies in Lille, France, on March 20th and 21st under the motto "Qui gouverne le monde? Who runs the world? The format will be a fictional parliamentary assembly where MPs will examine and vote on three digital bills sessions. The event is free and translation to English will be provided.
