'Making Jesus known in a modern, relevant, and unstuffy way'
Hello Everyone…
It’s the end of another year and a time when many of us reflect back at what we have done during the past twelve months and look forward to our plans for the new year. Following my involvement in the Springline churchs very busy run up to Christmas, and then a busy time for me personally on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, I thought I would sit down and reflect back on the achievements of our Church community here at Scampton during 2018. I went to our websites journal at www.scamptonchurch.org/our-journal and was amazed at just what we have achieved. Why not have a look yourself. Well done everyone.

So….what plans for the New Year you might ask?
Prayer, worship, support and encouragement is the core of our church life together at Scampton, and I have a dream that we can make our church services, and our service to our local community, more vital and meaningful. My hope is that our services continue to be unstuffy and filled with joy, heartfelt prayers, inspirational music, meaningful messages and that the Bible is opened-up in a simple way so that we can help people draw closer to God, and in doing so grow in our numbers. Also that our church building continues to be at the centre of community activities in Scampton.
I would be interested in hearing your dreams for our church and community too. Please contact me to share your dreams and visions for our church during 2019. Then at our family service on 6th January, we will commit our dreams to God, working together as a team to see those dreams become a reality. We WILL make a difference in the name of Christ. Time and money are needed, so I invite you to dream, to give, to share, to witness and to work, so that God’s love may be felt by everyone who wants to keep our church growing at Scampton.

So here’s to 2019… bring it on

On behalf of the leadership team may I wish you every happiness in the New Year.

Rev’d Sue Deacon (Local Minister)

PS: Please be encouraged to forward our Scampton Church Newsletter to your friends and family.
Family Service
The family service this month looks back at our achievements in Christ's name during 2018, and looks forward to our exciting plans for the year ahead. Sue will tell the story of the three wise men and how they decided to leave the comfort of their achievements at home and, excitingly, follow a new and unusual star in the sky which they believed signified the birth of the Messiah.
Our last family service raised £'s towards Vickys Macmillan Cancer Care Fund.

*Don't Forget* - Make a NEW YEAR RESOLUTION - Bring a tin to the family service!

Lincoln community larder logoWe invite you to grab a tin from your kitchen cupboard, bring it to the family service, and then place it into the ('BAT BOX') at the back of church. We call it the Bring a Tin ('BAT') initiative.
We send the food to The Lincoln Community Larder whose aim is to provide basic food for people in crisis. They do this by issuing Larder Vouchers to a variety of agencies in the area who then refer people to them who are in need of assistance in the form of food. The larder provide 3 days worth of food for each person included on the voucher.
Lincoln Larder give advice about the best tins required by them here.

Engaging the next generation
The new family communion service will build on the success and popularity of our monthly family service and will take a similar format. ie INFORMAL, INCLUSIVE, INTERACTIVE, FRIENDLY, FUN AND FREE!

It will be held at 4pm on the third Sunday of the month starting in February. This means that we will have two services a month at Scampton that are modern, easy going and family friendly.

We want children to be welcomed and valued equally, not excluded from this key element of worship. We also recognise the importance of teaching children about Christ's sacrifice. For this reason, prior to the first children's communion service, there will be a session to teach children the meaning of Communion at 3pm on Sunday 20th January 2019. If you are interested please come along.

TEACHING CHILDREN THE MEANING OF COMMUNION
3PM SUNDAY 20TH JANUARY 2019 IN CHURCH.
Alpha Course at Scampton 2019
I'm not a church goer but I was brought up a Christian.
I don't believe in any God.
What's the purpose of me being here?
I do get a sense of peace when I go into a church building.
Who is Jesus anyway?
I can't understand why the bible continues to be the best selling book.
I find religion boring.
If there was a God and I could ask him or her some questions I'd have lots of questions to ask!

Scampton Alpha Course is a space to talk about life, faith and meaning. It's at Scampton Primary School on Monday evenings starting 11th February at 7pm.
People come for lots of different reasons and Alpha is ideal for anyone asking questions about faith and interested in exploring ideas. It's also good for new Christians, newcomers to church and those wanting to brush up on the basics. It's totally free and you're not tied into anything. The food is great so don't have any evening meal before you come!

Here are some of the comments from the people who came on the 2018 course.
My weak faith is now much stronger;
I developed by gaining a better understanding of what Christianity is;
I now need to find out what’s right for me;
I've got a deeper understanding;
My faith has been strengthened and challenged;
I was tested by some of the questions;
I've got a desire to explore more faith issues;
I now want to delve deeper.

The course starts at Scampton Primary School on 11th February at 7pm
If you would like to come along to our Alpha Course please sign up HERE and this will help us enormously with catering arrangements. There's no charge, no pressure, no follow up.
It's relaxed and fun, yet personally challenging..

RAF Stained Glass Window Update

To commemorate the close relationship between RAF Scampton and Scampton church over the last 100 years, and also as RAF Scampton is earmarked to be de-commisioned, we have decided to look at the feasibility of creating a partnership to create an RAF stained glass window in the church as a lasting memory. A number of squadrons have flown from the base, but generally they have used three aircraft: Avro Lancaster, Avro Vulcan and Hawk Trainer. At this early stage those aircraft could form the basis of the design, along with the RAF Scampton insignia.
RAF Scampton, The Dambusters Inn and Scampton Primary School and Pollyplatt Primary School are partners with Scampton Church, and The Claire Williamson Glassworks in making this concept a reality.
The Royal Air Force Association have agreed to support this project and will circulate it to their 76,000 followers on Facebook.
 We are particularly looking for local people who have knowledge and skills using the social media platforms of Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter to help with the crowd funding campaign to be launched in April 2019. If you have this experience and are interested in becoming part of the team please contact us.
(The picture is for stained glass illustration only and not representative of the design)
Adopt an historical grave
A great big thank you to Scampton Gardening Club for volunteering to look after the Armistice Centenary 'Peace' rose bed in the church yard, and also to Greg and Steve at The Dambusters Inn for volunteering to look after the 'Hannah Rose Garden'.
We thought these contributions showed great community spirit here in Scampton.
Scampton church and church yard attracts hundred of visitors during the year.  The Commonwealth War Graves Commission have now taken over the maintenance of all the war and service graves. They have levelled, re-turfed and re-planted the area to the North of the church, and they do a splendid job keeping the churchyard 'spick and span'.
However to the South of the church many of the older gravestones are becoming overgrown and lost.
Some churches run an 'adopt a grave' scheme, where members of the community take on the task of looking after one grave. This means a couple of visits a year to keep the stone clear and readable.
If you would like to help out and adopt a grave, then please contact us.
Sherlock does Christmas!
Our nativity play this year was a huge success thanks to Bill and Lynn, and to everyone who took part.
