We were the center of the storm!

The storm caused the cancellation of all FIRST Tech Challenge events in Missouri last Friday and Saturday impacting almost 90 teams (some were at Friday Meet and Saturday Qualifier or the double header Ravonics Meet). You are not alone!

WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY
(repeat from 1/10 newsletter, posted on Team Portal and part of all Coach Packets)

Events for our region are booked and scheduled in advance. Our policy is that no event is ever rescheduled. Event managers have the authority to cancel an event if their facility determines conditions to be unsafe. This policy would apply to inclement weather or any other public safety issue including a lack of screened volunteers. If an event is not cancelled, it is up to the discretion of the parents and coach to determine if they will attend. No refunds will be given in these situations.

Meet Cancellation
All teams will be awarded a duplicate of their other Meet scores.

Qualifier Cancellation
The Meet scores will be used to determine the top two teams to advance. The remaining slots (2 for a 24 team event or 3 for a 36 team event) will be determined by a random drawing of the scheduled teams.

MEET CANCELLATION IMPACTS

All teams scheduled to compete last weekend had their existing scores doubled.
If this was the first Meet and they play later, the upcoming Meet score will be doubled.
If you only scheduled one Meet or both Meets on the same day is cancelled, we have no score to double.

As a 36 team event, there are 5 direct advancements to State Championship.
Automatic to the top two Meet Scores (18 RP for both - no one could catch them).

# 1 Question - Can I Play at Another Event?

Answer - No. Your event was cancelled and you either had your Meet score doubled or you were in the Qualifier drawing. We love that you want to play! However, we have just a handful of spots and lots of teams. There isn't enough room or enough time. We have implemented the published policy.

# 2 Question - Why Don't You Reschedule?

This one has lots of answers but the main one is scheduling.

Venues are scheduled 6-9 months in advance.
Volunteers have been signing up since Sept. but we are still hunting for enough the day before our events.
Teams signed up for the date and location back in October. What are the odds that all 36 would be available for a reschedule?
We have 3 Qulaifiers on 1/19
Conference Qualifiers are 2/9.

If a Qualifier is cancelled,
Dean's List Interviews will be rescheduled
for another event or a phone interview.

Well, We Could Host

Some schools have asked about hosting a makeup event. Thank you for your interest. Please consider checking dates for an unofficial event (no advancement) to help all the teams that want more robot run times.

We'd also love to talk to you about venues for next season. Rockwood has already informed us that they're ready to give someone else a turn.
