If Only This Creek Could Talk
Well, it did, sort of. It spoke of its history, its people, its ecology and its economy to Richard Taylor. The former Kentucky poet laureate, a professor of English at Transylvania University, is the author of Elkhorn: Evolution of a Kentucky Landscape. Arts Tasting Menu Samples the Fare

Our first tasting menu of 2019 features some suggested stops during LexArts Hop on January 18th. First, at the LexArts Gallery, a group ceramic show that is an homage to mentors. Big changes are happening at the Lexington Art League and four new exhibitions, three solo shows, and one group show are opening on the night of the Hop. Solo shows include one by long-time Lexington artist, Clay Wainscott, his first solo show. Third stop is at Mary Rezny’s gallery where she is pairing her photography with work by local artists who utilize other mediums. A good start to the arts and cultural year!

2019 promises to be a banner year for UnderMain! Our goal to produce insightful writing about local and regional art and artists just got a huge boost. UnderMain has been awarded a grant by the Great Meadows Foundation to produce a year-long series of in-depth essay profiles of the works of twelve Kentucky artists. The grant also sustains our reviews of exhibitions.

As a companion to the written work and supported by Great Meadows, UnderMain will present in March Critical Mass III at The Carnegie in Covington, Kentucky, the latest in our series of conversations about contemporary art, artists, and art writing. Watch for more upcoming details about the date for this event and the participants in, what promises to be, a lively conversation!
