We met our match!
A gathering at the site of the future farm.As you’ll remember, in December, Costanoa Commons Farm was very excited to launch our own Month of Matches campaign. Thanks to a matching $10,000 donation from a very generous Friend of Costanoa Commons Farm, your end-of-the-year gift of support was doubled, bringing us closer to building our barn and growing our programs into the future. By December 31st, we raised $13,800 for a total of $23,800 including the matching gift!

Every donation brings us closer to building our barn and helping bring about our vision for an organic farm where farmers of all abilities grow healthy food and beautiful flowers, while building community.

Here are some of the many important features our barn will add to our farm:

  • A wheelchair-accessible post-harvest area where produce can be washed, dried, packaged and stored properly
  • A tool room
  • Proper equipment storage to keep our walk-behind tractor and implements clean and dry
  • Open workspace for farmers of all abilities to make flower bouquets and other value-added products (like dried herbs, wreaths, and pickles)
  • Dry storage for seed
  • Accessible workspace for year-round production and farm training
  • A covered roof for seating outdoors where staff, volunteers, and visitors can enjoy a view of the farm while meeting or socializing
Thank you again for every matching donation you made in support of Costanoa Commons Farm. We hope you know how grateful we are!
Our future is bright
A gathering at the site of the future farm.At Santa Cruz’s Titans of Tech event on January 17th, Allterra Solar announced the winners of its Power Positive Non-Profit Giveback campaign and guess what? We won! Lisa Rose, Heidi Cartan, and Noah Habib accepted for the farm.

We could not be happier about Allterra’s award of a Solar PV system, which will have a direct and lasting impact on our ability to fulfill our mission. Thanks to all our friends who took the time to nominate us. You are part of our success, and we are honored to have your support, and that of Allterra, moving forward into this new year.

Ecological stewardship of our rare urban farm parcel is very important to us. Though ours is a small farm, its ability to demonstrate the importance of biodiversity, while producing healthy food for our community, is huge.

Thanks to Allterra, we can spend more of our resources on realizing our vision and fulfilling our mission, rather than on a power bill. With this gift, the sun will power our hydroponic greenhouse system of pumps and fans, and power our barn, so we can grow more sustainably and keep our commitment to having a lighter touch on our earth.
