A Letter from Your Elder
Dear Grace Family,
Have you ever been in the presence of a godly person – not someone who was simply nice, but who was truly godly? How did you feel? In these situations I feel exposed and very aware of my sinful shortcomings.
John felt this way in Revelation 1 when he encountered the risen and conquering Savior: the resounding voice, the white hair, the eyes like fiery flame, the feet like burnished bronze, the sharp 2-edged sword coming from his mouth, and the face shining like the sun. John fell down as dead, and who could blame him? The faithful apostle cowered in abject fear. And Jesus lovingly said, as He placed His right hand on His dear friend, “Do not be afraid!”
As we consider the concept of repentance this first week of Seek, let’s remember that we serve this same Jesus. He is the perfect standard of holiness to which God calls us. Let’s come to Him with a repentant spirit, individually and corporately, always ready to turn from sin and back to God. And we have the assurance that, as He comforted John, He also will comfort us and change us into who He has called us to be.
Sincerely,
Bart Sheridan
