Aberdeen Update

If you aren’t able to make tonight’s City Council meeting, you can tune in by streaming video.  For instructions go to the City’s home page (Click here) to watch and listen.  You can also watch on the Harford County Cable Network (Comcast channel 21 Verizon channel 31, and Armstrong channel 7)  on Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m.  Why watch?  Tonight you’ll hear the latest Update on the State of the City Address from Mayor Patrick McGrady.  There’s been a whole lot of great things happening in Aberdeen within the last year, with more on the way.  Tune in and get the straight talk.

We’re excited to roll out our newest tool in the kit bag of marketing and economic material. It's one thing to talk about Aberdeen's growth, but to see it encompassed in video form is impressive.  Potential new businesses and homebuyers can now see images, graphics, and hear statistics about “Our Home Your Opportunity” on Aberdeen in this new high tech production.  Sound bites about our population, transportation/travel, Aberdeen Proving Ground, education, large/small businesses, and more are all packet into 118 seconds! There’s aerial drone shots of Aberdeen you’ve never seen before, so please share with those who may be thinking about moving here or starting a business.  To view video, please click here.
Crossing Guard Needed
Know anyone who might be looking for an ideal part time job?  A parent of school-aged children, a retiree, or an individual just looking to be outside, guarding our most precious resource, our children?  Then the City has just what you are looking for . . . a school crossing-guard position.  This is a great position as you have free time throughout the day, never work nights or weekends, and have off during the summer! Crossing guards direct or escort pedestrians across streets by observing gaps in traffic and stopping traffic as necessary by holding a stop sign that is visible to approaching vehicles. The individual will serve as  a role model for our children and work as partners with the Aberdeen Police Department.  If this sounds like something you would be interested in click here for more information and to apply.
Harford County Restaurant Week

During Restaurant Week, local restaurants will promote a special menu with special pricing. With over 30 participating restaurants, we think you'll be covered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Better yet, Aberdeen's own TB3 Bar and Grill is participating so be sure to check them out.

Harford Transit LINK Additions

Starting today Harford County’s public bus system is upgrading its services with new routes and schedulesImprovements include extended weekday hours, added bus stops and more frequent buses on fixed routes. All existing bus stops will remain while the need for transfers will be reduced as the LINK’s eight routes are consolidated into six.  New schedules and maps are available now on buses, online at www.harfordtransitlink.org and by calling 410-612-1620.

The six new routes are as follows:

•   Route 1 Green Line: Havre de Grace, Aberdeen, Bel Air

•   Route 2 Blue Line (formerly Routes 2, 5, and 6): Bel Air, Edgewood, Aberdeen

•   Route 3 Silver Line (formerly Route 8 and segments of Routes 2 and 6A): Aberdeen, Edgewood, Joppatowne

•   Route 4 Yellow Line: Aberdeen Circulator

•   Route 5 Teal Line (formerly Route 7): Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Perryville

•   Route 6 Orange Line (formerly Route 3): Bel Air Circulator

Harford Transit LINK also has two free apps that make it easy to take the bus. Token Transit allows users to buy and display bus passes on their smartphones, eliminating the need to carry exact fare or bus passes. RouteShout 2.0 displays Harford LINK’s routes and stops, and tracks buses in real time.  “Harford County’s award-winning bus service keeps moving forward for our citizens,” County Executive Barry Glassman said. “We continue to improve efficiencies, while these new upgrades and our free apps make it more convenient than ever before to let Harford Transit LINK take you where you want to go.”  For more information call 410-612-1620 or visit www.harfordtransitlink.org

The Census Bureau is Hiring!
The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring field representatives in our area and they are asking for our help.
The Census Bureau conducts more than 130 surveys every year.
Their ability to conduct continuous surveys — other than the once-a-decade population count — depends on survey takers in the field and in their Regional Offices where workers are needed.  Even though the Bureau is gearing up to hire workers for the 2020 Census, they still need field representatives for other ongoing surveys. This is where you can help!
We encourage our community to be a part of their team — benefits include flexible hours, meeting people and working outside of the office environment.
Field Representatives perform a variety of vital functions, such as updating address lists and maps; conducting interviews with residents in assigned areas; explaining the purpose of the census interview; and answering residents' questions. Hours of work for field positions will vary - some require employees to work during the day to see addresses on buildings, while others require interviewing the public usually in the evening and on weekends.
