Draft Recordkeeping Standards

Feedback requested

PROV is undertaking a review of the mandatory Standards and Specifications set for the Victorian Public Sector.

We are now seeking feedback on four draft Standards - Strategic Management, Operational Management, Create Capture & Control and Access Standards.

Records Management Network (RMN)

November 2018 Recap

The final RMN for 2018 was held at the Victorian Archives Centre during November. This session focused on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and how impacted agencies were responding to records management recommendations identified in the report.

Gambling and Liquor Regulation RDA

Feedback requested

The PROV Appraisal and Documentation Team invites stakeholders to review a new draft Retention and Disposal Authority for Records of the Gambling and Liquor Regulation Functions.

This RDA will apply to the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) and cover records related to the gambling and liquor regulation functions and other unique supporting functions and activities administered by the Commission.

PROV Staff at the British Library

Research Project

PROV's Victorian Electronic Records Strategy, Senior Officer Evanthia Samaras recently travelled to London to undertake a research placement at the British Library. During her three months with the Library's Digital Preservation Team, Evanthia investigated malware and the role of computer virus checking in long-term collection management and digital preservation.

Research using records from our collection

Every year on the 1st of January hundreds of state archives are made public as part of the Public Record Office Victoria annual Section 9 record openings. Under Section 9 of the Public Records Act 1973 files of a personal or private nature are closed to prevent the violation of personal privacy.

Amongst the files made public this year are 1942-1943 Capital Case Files. Capital cases relate to those criminal trials where a sentence of death was given. You may have heard of case of the US soldier Private Edward (Eddie) J Leonski convicted of the "Brownout murders" in 1942, this year the Victorian Government copy of the Eddie Leonski trial has been made public.
