Message From the Chair

Hello, and Happy New Year!

With the new year comes new changes – including one we’ve been preparing for over the past few months: the time has come to start closing the Yahoo Groups EMLs!

The number-one complaint we hear every year in our member survey is the volume of emails that NE generates via its EMLs, or Electronic Mailing Lists. Despite the option to receive messages as a 'daily digest', the volume of emails as well as the ability to search archives has been an ongoing complaint. We’ve been beta-testing a new communications platform that resides directly on nedpg.org – what we call the NE Hub – and it’s now ready for prime-time!

Once you get your profile and settings set up to your liking, the rest is easy. There are also self-paced tutorials to help you get better acquainted with the platform. Log into
nedpg.org to check it out if you haven’t yet. There has already been a plethora of activity among our NE members (thank you, early adopters!).

The EMLs will be closing down after the Academy Elections – so on Saturday, February 16, we will be exclusively using the NE Hub. If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to contact me at
chair@nedpg.org

Yes, change is hard. But it’s also necessary and trust me, will make life easier!

Cheers to change –

Mark your calendars for the Academy election taking place February 1 to 15, 2019. Biographical information for the 2019 candidates on the national ballot is available on the election website. Help shape the future of the Academy by exercising your member privilege to vote. When you cast your ballot you will receive a coupon good for $5.00 off your next purchase from the eatrightSTORE!

As a reminder, candidates may begin campaigning January 18, 2019. The Academy’s National Campaign Guidelines have been revised for the 2019 election. Nominating Committee members Bethany Thayer and Eileen Myers presented a webinar on November 29 to inform members about the changes to the campaign guidelines and how to take an active role in the election process. For those of you who were unable to attend the live webinar, you may view the recorded session on the election website.

To clarify the Affiliate, DPG and MIG leaders’ role in campaigning, as stated in the guidelines, elected officials cannot support an individual candidate through print, electronic or social media communications or advise friends and colleagues who to vote for. Elected DPG/MIG and Affiliate officials may, though, promote all of the candidates on the ballot that are members of their group. Appointed officials, however, may show support for a candidate via non-Academy related electronic mailing lists or communication platforms as long as they do not mention their leadership position. For example, appointed leaders can say, “As a colleague of candidate X, expressing my personal opinion, I support her/his candidacy for the office of X.”
