Message from the Principal

Dear Highline Community,

Happy 2019! I hope that your family had a restful break. As much as we all enjoyed the time away to connect with our families, it has been wonderful to have students back in the building for the past few days. At the beginning of the school year, I communicated to the community that I was pregnant. The past six months have flown by and I am just one month away from welcoming a baby boy!

With this transition just around the corner, I want to share my plans for maternity leave with the community. Currently, I am planning to take February 15th – May 3rd for my leave. While I am out of the building, Steve Vaughan will assume the role of acting Principal. Mr. Vaughan has been on the Highline team for 10 years and this is his 4th year as Assistant Principal. Additionally, Mr. Vaughan oversaw day to day operations when I was out for my first maternity leave in 2016. Mr. Vaughan will still be the point of contact for elementary needs and will also be the point of contact for any whole school needs. Mr. Shaw will continue to support with middle school. In addition, Marisol Sotelo, our Student Services Liaison, will assist both Mr. Shaw and Mr. Vaughan in responding to student behavioral needs throughout the building. I have the utmost confidence that this team will lead our school gracefully and thoughtfully while I am away.

2019-20 DPS School Choice

Transitioning out of Highline next year? Do you have a sibling of a current student joining us next year? You must complete a DPS Round 1 lottery application. The DPS School Choice lottery enrollment for next year takes place between January 15th and February 15th. You must apply online at http://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/ anytime between January 15th and February 15th, 2019 at 4 p.m. by ranking up to 12 school preferences. If you have a sibling of a current student joining us, please also let Heather Knight (hknight@highlineacademy.org) know so we can be aware of your application.

The PWP presents our annual auction: Vegas Night
Watch for it! Your Vegas Night invitation to Highline's Annual Auction will be in next week's Thursday folder. The auction is Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Soiled Dove Underground.

Help us craft a fabulous event by soliciting donations from your favorite spots in Denver. Please turn this form in with any donations. We appreciate your support!

Annual Cultural Fair

We are so excited for the annual Cultural Fair on February 9, 2019! The Cultural Fair is a family and community event celebrating Highline Academy’s diversity. From Argentina to Ethiopia, come learn about the cultures and customs of our student body. There will be food, crafts, games, and lots of fun!

We are Actively Seeking Music & Dance Performers and Ethnic Food Booths. If you or someone you know has a rich heritage and/or talent to share, please help us promote our Community Cultural Fair. Sign up for a 15-30 minute Dance or Music Performance or create a booth to share samples of your favorite family dish.

Please fill out the flyer in Thursday folders and drop off at the front desk or email Anthea Martin at anthea.martin@gmail.com by February 1st. Thank you for sharing with our community!

Sugary Drinks @ lunch

Just a reminder that we do not allow students to bring sodas to school for lunch. We are promoting a healthy learning environment and the extra sugar is not conducive to this initiative. Thank you for your help!

PWP Information

2nd Annual Bingo Night
Join us for the 2nd annual Bingo Night on January 16th from 6:30 to 8pm. The cost is $5 per person/$10 max per family. Popcorn and lemonade will be provided and a great time will be had by all! Please see the flyer here.
