New Director of Education Abroad
The Center for International Affairs has a new Director of Education Abroad who wants to increase opportunities for students at Case Western Reserve University to have the kind of life-changing experiences that inspired her to pursue a career in international education. Dr. Angela Miller came to CWRU this month from the University of Florida where she served as the Director for Study Abroad and Liaison for Diversity and Inclusion.

Dr. Miller was drawn to CWRU's culture of innovation and commitment to internationalization. She is excited to bring her passion to the campus community, "Education Abroad affords students and faculty the opportunities to gain global competencies, expand critical thinking, and collaborate with others in ways that help them to grow personally and professionally," said Dr. Miller, "Study Abroad is a vehicle that helps us to see the world and see ourselves at the same time."

She looks forward to collaborating with faculty and staff across campus to build CWRU's portfolio of study abroad options including internships and research opportunities. One of her goals is to expand resources for students who are currently unable to participate in a study abroad experience, as she believes gaining a global perspective is an essential component of learning.

"We can become a world-class leader in study abroad innovations," said Dr. Miller, "With CWRU’s outstanding reputation and proven track record as a leader in diverse innovations, we are poised to impact the future of international education."

Celebrate Lunar New Year with CWRU
CWRU invites all members of the campus community and the public to experience the most important holiday for billions of people around the world: Lunar New Year. The holiday is tied to the lunar-solar Chinese calendar and was originally observed as a time to honor household and heavenly deities and ancestors. Today, it brings friends and family together for festivities in China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Mongolia and other countries all over the world. CWRU will celebrate Lunar New Year on Tuesday, February 5 at 7:00 pm at Tinkham Veale University Center with a free event featuring Asian snacks, hot chocolate, green tea, and games and activities provided by student organizations. At 8:00 pm the festivities will move outside for a fireworks display. CWRU's Lunar New Year event is presented by a partnership of the Center for International Affairs, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, First Year Experience and Family Programs and the Office of the Provost.

Scholars from Around the World Available to Lecture at CWRU
Fulbright Scholars from around the world who are currently visiting the U.S. are available to come to CWRU for short-term speaking engagements through the Outreach Lecturing Fund. These scholars are able to speak about their home country and culture, their Fulbright experience, and provide expertise in their fields. The Fulbright Scholar Program offers funding for campuses to make these opportunities possible. The goal of the program is to promote academic disciplines and cultural understanding - providing enrichment for the scholars and the institutions they visit. There are eligibility requirements, as scholars must be on a grant of at least three months to participate and they need to travel at least 75 miles away from their U.S. host institution. You can view the list of Fulbright Visiting Scholars currently in the U.S. here. Those interested in potentially bringing a Fulbright Visiting Scholar to CWRU can contact CWRU's Fulbright Scholar Liaisons in the Center for International Affairs by clicking the link below.
