A Few Chords from the President

The  Australia day weekend may herald the end of the holidays for some, and for them planning for 2019 begins, but for the hard working management team that administers BUMS behind the scenes, much has already been happening.

By the time you get this newsletter it will be only 14 days away from that most important date of the year, 14 February. To all those young lovers out there looking for that perfect gift for Valentines day, nothing says I love You, more than one of our talented performers serenading that special someone with an Elvis song… Love me Tender! Or if that love is starting to fade, perhaps Neil Diamond’s “You don’t bring me flowers, any more” might rekindle the fires, (hotter than a Brisbane night, or a bottle of single malt.)  Of course the cynics might argue it's just another way to hire a big old BUM. If you do want a BUMS Strummer contact our Gigmeister, John Henderson, who will happily put you in touch with a suitably qualified performer.

More importantly, remember to celebrate World Ukulele Day on Saturday 2 February. Strum on your own, with some friends and in the words of the Disney song some of us grew up with, as we fell in love with Jimmy and Annette, "Come along and sing the song and join Jamboree."  Keep the celebration going at the Samual Grays Jam on Sunday 3 February.

Now on Saturday 2 March we are holding a trivia night (see above). The evening is a fundraiser to help defray some of the administrative costs associated with SPRUKE 2019. The cause is great, the fun will be greater, and the company will be T-riffic! So grab some smart friends (or any friends at all really), an aloha shirt, and get yourself a table.

A few SPRUKE-related items to watch out for in the months to come include: a ukulele performance competition, a ukulele maintenance workshop, and the eagerly awaited parody songwriting competition. The year is rolling!
