Three Tons of Household Hazardous Waste Cleaned Up!
Last year, in partnership with San Juan County, ORS/The Exchange was able to start offering more frequent Household Hazardous Waste collection events on Orcas, to supplement regular once-a-year pickups. Would you believe that with just two locally managed events in 2018 we collected an extra 5,989 pounds of HHW? Read on to see the breakdown of the materials we collected, and info on the next collection event!
Highest Form Of Reuse: Keeping it On Island.
Need a barrel? How about a super-cool garbage can? We love it when local companies approach us for help with waste challenges. Innovative and responsible Orcas company Lotioncrafter has a plethora of 55 gallon steel drums as a by-product of their business. They came up with a great way to keep them on-island: low-cost commercial grade garbage cans! Check this out!
Save the Date: Great Islands Clean Up 2019
The Earthday GICU weekend is going to be HUGE this year! Saturday, April 20, from 10am to 2pm will be the Great Islands Clean-up. Island Market is challenging anyone to put a team together to beat their garbage collection total for the day--and if they are beaten, they will donate $2,000 to ORS/The Exchange, and buy everyone on your team beers at Island Hoppin' Brewery afterwards! Organize your groups now!!! AND for the first time ever, ORS/The Exchange is making a weekend of it. We are taking over the Orcas Center to present an Earth Day Festival on Sunday the 21st featuring an inter-island 'Trashion Fashion' show; a 'Junk Art' opening and contest; and a serious waste-stream management brainstorming convention! Save the date, get in touch if you want to help.....
This Month on the Online Store
Available this month on The Exchange Online Store: Bruno Magli Vintage Pumps and a Coach Bag in black leather. There are plenty of other items available so head over to The Exchange Online Store and see what new offerings we have. These items will be listed for at least four weeks before we make them available on larger sites such as Ebay, OfferUp, and Craigslist.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Okay, if you've still got your Christmas tree up, we're not judging you. And if you're looking for a place to recycle it, search no more! The Exchange will accept your decoration-free tree at no cost--and turn it into mulch that will be used locally. KEEPIN' IT ON THE ISLAND!

Smile. You're on Orcas Island.

Where else besides Orcas Island could you find something like this? Tell us about the best, oddest, coolest, or most valuable find you've made at The Exchange!
