A Message from the CEO - Melissa Knox

It is our pleasure to end 2018 with a sense of gratefulness of the support St Bernard’s Hospice received from our local Buffalo City Community, our volunteers, local businesses and from our National and International Funders.

As everyone experiences a tough economic climate, we remain astutely aware of the sacrifices made by those who continue to support us. It is an amazing feeling when one can see that funders and individuals are acutely aware of the benefit received through Palliative Care services and that it remains absolutely crucial that our community can access these services as and when needed.

A sad farewell was said to two long serving staff members who retired this year. Cynthia Chaplin and Heather Gall made an incredible contribution to St Bernard’s Hospice and its clients in the 16 years they served the organisation. We wish them well in their new ventures and hope to still see them at Hospice functions.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all St Bernard’s Hospice staff for their contribution towards ensuring that we continue to provide quality home based palliative care to people affected by life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.

I hope you and you families experienced the peace of Christ over the 2018 Christmas period and you were all filled with the gift of Love.

Pedal for a Purpose November 2018

The St Bernard's Hospice 3 Day Cycle Challenge was launched  10 years ago to help raise awareness for the Palliative Care Services  St Bernard's Hospice offers the East London Community. and, very importantly, to help raise funds to sustain the services of this not for profit Organization.

The exciting difference about this Cycle Tour is that it is not a race. BUT, though it is not a race, it is a real challenge.

We are Mortal. We're born, we live, we make our mark and, when it is time, we die.
Though time and circumstances  are particular to each of us, we bear the prospect of death in commn.  We suffer as we watch our loved ones decline and feel powerless to spare him or her.

If you have chosen to read this article, you and your family are probably facing some challenging healthcare decisions.
