From the

Headmistress
Dear Parents

Happy New Year and welcome back.  We all look forward to a busy term with many musical and sporting opportunities; and new challenges.

We are delighted that Ms Cozens has joined us to teach class music throughout the school on Thursdays.  Our children have enjoyed their class music lessons with her today.  Ms Cozens is a talented musician on the violin, viola and piano. She is also an  ABRSM examiner, with many years of teaching experience.  We are delighted that she has joined us at Grantham Prep.

Enjoy the weekend
Kinds regards

A very big Grantham Prep welcome to Elsey who has joined us in Nursery!

Elsey has two cats at home called Daisy (who is very well behaved) and Ivy (who is very mischievous!)  She enjoys watching Trolls, Pepper Pig and Horrid Henry on TV.  Her older brother, Albert is currently in Y2 here.

New music teacher to Grantham Prep

Hello, it's lovely to be here and I am looking forward to getting  to know the children.  There are lots of enthusiastic, super young musicians in the school!

Our emphasis will be on practical music making and ensemble skills within the class settings - focusing on listening, teamwork and co-operation.

The children in Year 6 and Year 5 have already come up with some ideas.  Year 6 suggested that they could do some composing and Year 5 are very keen to have a solo spot where they perform to the rest of the class at the end of the music lesson.

That being the case please can any child who plays an instrument bring it to school on Thursdays, regardless if they have a lesson that day. or not.  Instruments can be left in the Music Room.

I am really looking forward to meeting you all and becoming part of this lovely community.

Christmas Holiday Club
Christmas Holiday Camp 2018

In December 2018 the children joined our fun filled Christmas Holiday Camp for lots of festive treats.  All we wanted for Christmas was a good old traditional pantomime.  Oh yes, we did!  We were very excited to go to the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham and join "Dick Whittington" on his adventure of finding his fortune in London.  It was perfect storytelling,  filled with magic, fairy dust and festive cheer.  Oh yes, it was!  Christopher from Pre-School was lucky enough to get a special mention from the cast as it was his first Christmas pantomime since he joined the school.

Back by popular demand, Martial Arts coach Mrs Jo Copeland returned with some more of her martial arts techniques to balance the children's confidence and discipline.

Finally, we celebrated the end of the festive Christmas Camp with the Christmas party.  Fun and games were had by all and by the end of the busy week we were all ready to welcome Christmas into our homes with family and friends.

We wish you all the best for 2019 and hope to see you again during Easter Holiday Camp.

Pop Art on the iPads

Class One have been honing their skills on the school's iPads. The children have enjoyed numerous mathematical, geographical and Art activities on these wonderful devices. As part of their Andy Warhol Art topic, individual class members used the 'Photo Booth' Application to create their own version of his Pop Art genre. It was great fun to see everyone's changing appearance. Class One are a really good looking group of children but these images depict them differently! The iPad is an excellent tool to create cross-curricular links, encourage further independent research and what's more... a great hit with the children.

Class 2 - Instructional Texts

After a magical break, Class Two have returned to school with enthusiasm and positive working attitude. This week they have been studying instructional texts, as well as reading lots of examples. The children have discovered 'What makes instructions effective?' and have been incorporating this into their own work.

One of the main focuses is: 'collaboration', in which each member of the Class works in a team to build a Lego model and then write instructions for someone else to recreate it.

I am so pleased that everyone has engaged with the task and had a lot of fun! Look out for the finished pieces of work which will be displayed in the classroom with photographs.

We build our own future!

News from IES/SEK Schools
Model of United Nations - SEKNUVA VIII

Since I was 11 years old, I have attended the Models of the United Nations. Slowly, I started to fall in love with the arbitration process and the debates themselves. My goal was to someday be the Secretary General of SEKNUVA, and the day finally came on December 12th. After months of organization, SEKNUVA VIII was a 4 day-long MUN that I will always remember. Not only because it was something I worked really hard for, but because I know that every delegate enjoyed the experience that we created at SEK Los Valles.

Sometimes, on the MUN one has to defend political positions that one does not agree with. I saw a lot of this situations during the Model, while the delegates of Venezuela or North Korea defended to death each of their policies. What I can really say about SEKNUVA, as a former delegate/chair/Secretary General, is that it was a great opportunity for everybody to improve their debate skills, and understand the world and its conflicts, as we offered a safe place where every delegate could develop and improve themselves.

Aktiv im Deutschunterricht!
German as an all-round learning experience!

It is important to study a language actively by making meaningful experiences that are possible in real life situations in order to consolidate learning.

Grade 6 students have learnt to introduce themselves and have created their own Identity card in German. They learnt about the school time-table, school subjects and have completed a project about school.

Grade 7 students have learnt to talk about different shops and how to buy fruit and vegetables at the market.

Grade 8 students learnt about the most read German newspapers, the different parts of an article and then wrote an article practising the perfect tense.
