Certificate in Experiential Learning

Designed as a flexible series of workshops, this spring's Certificate in Experiential Learning Program explores course design, assessment, civic dialogue, classroom community, and cultural competency. Social Justice Pedagogy
Reading Group

As conversations around social justice intensify on the national level, the CEL invites you to explore how you can cultivate a just classroom environment through how you teach. Active Teaching Reading Group

Write Now! Writing Workshop Series

Join us for a series of workshops designed to provide dedicated time and space for scholarship of teaching and learning, community-engaged scholarship, and publicly-engaged writing across the university. Write Now! meets Fridays from 9:00-11:00AM in Cuneo 410 and offers a supportive interdisciplinary atmosphere, guided writing sessions, and refreshments. For more information, email Susan Haarman.

Save the Date: Academic Internship Faculty Lunch and Learn Affinity Group
March 27th • 1:00 - 2:30PM • Mundelein 1410
The affinity group is an opportunity for Academic Internship faculty to come together, share resources and best practices of teaching an Engaged Learning course alongside their students who are enrolled in an internship for academic credit. Lunch will be provided. Look out for reservations coming to your email!

The Communities in Solidarity program funds community immersion in engaged learning courses. Apply for up to $500 each semester to help your class connect to Rogers Park and Edgewater. Take your class to a local organization, restaurant or museum or support their Engaged Learning efforts through honoraria for speakers and/or facilitated training from community partners. Apply below!
Priority will be given to participants in the Certificate in Experiential Learning Faculty Development Program.

JAM: Jobs at Art Museums
Ever wonder what it's like to work at an art museum?
Jobs at Art Museums (JAM) is an all-day museum career awareness event at the Art Institute of Chicago. Area students and emerging job seekers, as well as college and university faculty, are invited to visit the museum where they will experience student-led gallery presentations, a panel conversation with Art Institute staff, and intimate breakout sessions with museum professionals representing a variety of departments and fields. The Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium features undergraduate research (as part of academic courses, LUROP fellowships, external programs, or independent study) and celebrates undergraduate scholarship in community engagement, including projects from service-learning courses, academic internship courses, and community partnerships.
Registration is now open! Please encourage your students to share their fall and/or spring semester research and community engagement scholarship as part of this year's symposium! The Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium invites you to serve as an evaluator for Loyola students’ research, creative activity, and community engagement projects. This celebration of students’ scholarly work is a meaningful opportunity to review and engage with our Loyola students in the context of the community-based learning work and research projects with which the students have engaged over the past year. Please consider becoming an evaluator for the 2019 Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium!
Student Workshops
This year, we'll be co-hosting a series of workshops to help students prepare for the 2019 Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium. Stay tuned for upcoming workshops on writing abstracts, designing posters, developing oral presentations, and honing public speaking skills to share with your students!

The Center for Experiential Learning has a vibrant library of teaching and learning resources for Loyola faculty. You can access and contribute to these resources through our CEL Community Resources site available through Sakai at the link below. You'll find forms, readings, curriculum modules, reflection resources, syllabus language, and more. Our hope is that this site will be a living resource where faculty and staff can share further research, examples, articles, assignments, and resources.
