Annual inspections for your equipment
We often get asked what preventative measures do we recommend for Micro-Comm scada equipment? Here's our basic suggestions:
1. Flush transducers at least once per year. Make sure there is no debris in the line connecting the transducer and that there is a good flow of water going to the transducer.
2. Test battery backup operation. Turn off AC power to the RTU and make sure the RTU will run on battery backup. How long it will run can vary in different situations; in most cases time required to get you through a brownout (maybe up to 30 minutes to an hour) will cover most situations.
3. Look at antenna and coax. Make sure antenna is not missing elements or is otherwise damaged. Coax should be firmly affixed all the way to the antenna- if a section is loose and swaying in the wind, it will need to be replaced.
4. Inspect for signs of insect and rodent damage inside and around the equipment. Also look for corrosion on screw terminals and battery connections.
5. CAREFULLY test to see if the radio seems hot to the touch or use a touchless temperature sensor. The radio may run slightly warmer than ambient temperature, but if it seems much warmer than other radios in your system, it could be a sign of a faulty radio, antenna or coax connection.
