Plans for the APG Discovery Center are moving ahead quickly. In 2019, we will open the APG Discovery Preview Center at the MARC Train station in Aberdeen. This facility will serve as a launchpad for building the permanent Discovery Center, which will open in 2022.
It is going to take "a village" to build the APG Discovery Center and we invite you to join us in building the foundation for the facility by participating in a committee.
The committee that most needs your help now is our Events Team. We are planning several very visible events to take place in 2019, including the APG Discovery Fest on May 4, a golf tournament in early May, science Ted Talks throughout the year, the Preview Center opening in September, and much more.
The Events Team is holding a meeting on Monday, January 14, at 4 p.m. at The Groundfloor (right next to Bill Bateman's), at 2021-D Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Please join us and help plan out the year's festivities. If you cannot attend but want to participate, just send us a note of interest at joan@apgdiscovery.com.
If events aren't your thing, we invite you to consider joining one of our other committees now forming:
- Education Committee - Contributes educational expertise to exhibits, ensures classroom integration, and builds relationships with educational institutions.
- Heritage Committee - Identifies historical technologies, important milestones, and key people for inclusion in the APG Discovery Center and maintains relationships with historical organizations across the state.
- Technology Committee Identifies current and future technologies for inclusion and maintains relationships with technology development organizations.
- Development Committee takes care of marketing, publicity, fundraising, and partnership development.
- The Facilities Committee is responsible for site selection, design, engineering, and other topics related to the APG Discovery Center physical plant.
- And last but not least, the Finance Committee tracks budgets and projections, manages vendor relationships, and ensures legal and accounting compliance.
