Johnson and Marsh Announce UCC Retirements |
Two long-time leaders in Upper Columbia Conference (UCC) have announced their plans to retire in 2019. Doug Johnson, vice president for administration since 2005, will retire on May 1. An Upper Columbia Academy and Walla Walla College graduate, and experienced pastor and administrator, Johnson is also known as an author of books on Adventist history in the Pacific Northwest. The other announced retirement is for Larry Marsh, who plans to step down as vice president for education at the end of February 2019. A former principal of Upper Columbia Academy, Marsh has reached nearly 48 years of service in Adventist education. He has served as UCC vice president for more than a decade. |

NW Members Featured at Biggest Tech Convention |
Wilkinson Baking Company, the brainchild of Walla Walla University graduate Ron Wilkinson, has scored a hit at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nev., with the best-smelling exhibit. The "Breadbot" automated breadmaking machine, which can pump out up to 10 loaves of fresh-baked bread every hour, is designed to enhance the bakery options for customers of top level grocery stores. Wilkinson, who also serves on the WWU board of directors, is joined by other family members who manage and operate the company located in Walla Walla, Wash. along with production of the Breadbot machines. |

Partners for Palau Seeks School Reading Resources |
As part of the North Pacific Union Conference Partners for Palau effort, Northwest school administrators and teachers are being asked to help supply our partner school, Palau Adventist Elementary School, with all the Life Reading program materials they need. Currently, K–8 enrollment there is about 250 students. NPUC-area schools no longer using their stored supply of Life Reading series reading books, teacher’s guides, and even unused Skilpaks, Criterion Exercises, and study books are asked to bring them to the NPUC Education Council at Walla Walla University on Jan. 28. WWU Professor to Speak Across Washington |
Tim Golden, Walla Walla University (WWU) professor of philosophy, has been named to the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau for 2019 and 2020. Throughout the term, Golden will join 30 other speakers in giving free public presentations across the state about fairness and equality in relation to race, gender and ethnicity. |

La Sierra University President Plans to Step Down |
Randal Wisbey, La Sierra University president since 2007, announced this week plans to step down as of June 30, 2019. In his message, he cited continuing health challenges following several eye surgeries. Wisbey, the university's third president, presided over an enrollment increase from 1,675 to 2,356 students during his tenure. His departure in June will mark 34 years of service in Adventist higher education. |
