Happy New Year!!!! For those of you who have not paid, please bring a $40 check on January 16th or click here to renew online! PLEASE NOTE: If you have not paid you will not have a nametag at our meetings.
Join us for our January meeting with Ali Greenberg, founder of The Broad!!!

Ali Greenberg is the Founder of The Broad, a workspace, social club and community center for women and gender minorities in Richmond’s Arts District - the first space of its kind in the state.

With a background in strategy at NYC ad agencies, Ali spent much of the last few years seven layers deep into Google - occasionally climbing out to advise Prime Ministers and CEOs on branding.

A lifelong traveler, Ali lived on four continents before calling Richmond home in 2017. Here, Ali has focused on making more space for women in our city as an in-clinic volunteer at Planned Parenthood, an intake counselor for the Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project, an advisor to female entrepreneurs, and a voter. Ali’s plan is to help create the new female-driven economy of Virginia, and she hopes to pet lots of dogs along the way.

Please join us January 16th @ 7:30 p.m. at 3009 Hanover Avenue
Thank you for everyone who attended our December Social with the Richmond Cycling Corps and made it a resounding success!  Sandy Ting, a board member of the Corps, spoke to us about this wonderful organization.  We learned that the organization changed gears over the course of the year and now teaches up to 15 high school-aged students in a "home schooling" environment.  This is the last chance for many of these students who have been suspended from school for truancy or disciplinary problems.  Volunteers and teachers pick these students up at 7 AM each weekday and don't return them to their homes until 10 PM.  If you missed the meeting and would still like donate to this wonderful, unique, program, please visit their website.  http://www.richmondcyclingcorps.org/
Meet Your Board Member! President Alexis Fisher-Rizk
This month, our featured board member, is President Alexis Fisher-Rizk.  Here is a little bit about her:

Where have you lived besides Richmond?

I was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida.  I moved to Richmond for law school and we fell in love with the city and decided to stay.

How did you come to call the Museum District home?

My husband and I bought a home here because enjoy being able to walk to so many restaurants and shops plus the treasure that is the VMFA.

Tell us a little about your career path.

I currently practice criminal law.  I began my career as public defender in the City of Richmond.  I transitioned to private practice and was a defense attorney for several years (in fact, for a while my office was on Belmont, also in the Museum District).  A little over three years ago, I switched to prosecuting and am now serving as a prosecutor in Henrico County.

What is your favorite part of the Museum District?

My favorite aspect of the Museum District are my neighbors.  We've made many wonderful friends in the neighborhood over the years.

What is your favorite thing to do in Richmond?

My favorite thing to do in Richmond is to walk to a restaurant or brewery with my husband for a date night.

Tell us about your hobbies and interests.

I love to travel.  I'm always dreaming of my next destination (tropical beach destinations are a favorite).  I also love reading--my favorite author is Stephen King.  And art, whether it's perusing art at the VMFA or visiting one of Richmond's many art galleries.
We are looking for volunteers to serve on the nominating committee for open board positions for next year.  Alexis will provide more information about this at our January meeting.  If you are interested in serving on the nominating committee, please let a board member know at the January meeting!
