Message from Marc Fisher

"We made it! All six service regions have been formed, regional leadership is in place, and a governance structure is operating. But, as I am fond of saying, we are not at the finish line, this has all been training for the starting line. Over the next year, we will focus on meeting with our clients to understand their needs, refining and simplifying processes, and committing to delivering better service to Berkeley's faculty, staff, and students.  Thank you to everyone whose hard work got us to this point; I look forward to the journey ahead!"

REGION UPDATES
ERSO
  • ORU transitions into ERSO's service community are now complete and going well so far.
  • A full focus is now on UCPath training and readiness for the March go-live.
ChaMPS
  • Welcomed eight (8) new HR/RA staff members including the appointment of Jerry Nazareta as HR Manager. Will continue to review needs and add staff where service and turnaround time could be improved (when applicable).
  • Piloting signature delegation for postdoc appointments within the Department of Physics. Turnaround time has been improved to 48 hours (from 2 weeks and up to 3 months previously). Also working on newly created internal/external resources to further improve postdoc accuracy and timeliness.
  • Expanding participation in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) BearBuy Pilot to help improve process workflows.
BEST
  • The team has moved from Giannini Hall and Banway to the UHall library space and is currently settling in. A big "win" to have the group working together and located all in one space for the first time.
  • Continuing to progress on their HR/RA Cross-Functional Improvement Project with the goals to improve service integration, strengthen relationship and seemless hand-offs between units. This is a volunteer group of 16 HR/RA staff committed to the project for six months before turning it over to a new group of BEST staff.
  • Working on a new server structure to replace the G-drive.
SHARE
  • Working on space plans beginning with moving staff together at Banway by the end of May. Ultimately will move to Barrows Hall once it's ready. Will be great to sit together as a team and a close walking distance to campus clients.
  • SHARE RAs will be the first point of contact for their assigned faculty members and will provide cradle-to-grave (pre-and-post award) RA services.
ProS
  • Currently hiring RA 2/3/4 staff -- Recruitments are underway and questions can be directed to RA Manager, Katie Hudson.
  • ProS staff to move to two campus locations. 140 UHall is up and running and 112 Hearst is under development based on their overall space configuration plan. ProS staff at Banway will relocate to Hearst in the next four months. HR/APS and Purchasing and Reimbursement staff will remain at Fourth St.
  • Effective 2/1 Latara Harris will be assuming the role of Supervisor for the ProS Purchasing and Reimbursements team. Welcome to P&R Latara!
  • Recognizing RAs Katherine Wang and Claudia Martinez-Schwarz on their recent retirement from UC Berkeley - Congratulations!
BEARS
  • We are the BEARS - Berkeley Educators and Administrators Regional Services!
  • The first BEARS All Hands Meeting was on January 24; we came together as a cross-functional team to discuss team goals and explore connections using Visual Explorer
  • Marc Fisher is the Regional Vice Chancellor for BEARS
