Dear all,

As this new year begins, I'm thrilled to present for the second time the Ephemeral Birds in quintet - 4 fiddles and accordion exploring where Yiddish, Raga and improvisation sounds merge together - as part of the MUSA Series, curated by Giancarlo Luiggi to feature women-led bands.
Sun Jan 20 at 8pm at Sisters
The event on facebook

Multi-lingual and multicultural project about the passage of time: birth, growth, childhood, friendship, social change, ivresse and mortality.
Musicians weave the boundless threads of time - in threads that are so difficult to grasp that we come to doubt it exists. And if time didn't exist, ask the physicists? The Ephemeral Birds have a different unit of measurement, because they shape it with their chants. Friendships are the feet of time. And the hourglass - fill it with wine, and enjoy while you still can!

Trina Basu (violin), Eleonore Biezunski (violin, vocals), Arun Ramamurthy (violin), Ilya Shneyveys (accordion) and Jake Shulman-Ment (violin)

Ruth Rubin's Legacy of Yiddish Songs concert

Here are a few memories for an unforgettable evening at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research!

It was a stunning celebration of Ruth Rubin's life and work, and an impressive and humbling gathering of singers and musicians!
You can read about the event in the press:
a great report by Seth Rogovoy in the Forward;
and articles in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Jewish Week
about the collection!
Lorin Sklamberg and I presented the night, and our work leading to the YIVO Ruth Rubin Legacy online exhibition, as well as a small exhibition featuring artefacts from Ruth Rubin's papers.

And then it was a delight of songs and tributes to Ruth Rubin! There will be a video of the show online at some point - I'll keep you posted!

And I wrote this blog post to get you started with the exploration of the fabulous Ruth Rubin Legacy online exhibition! Enjoy!
Also check out the YIVO Sound Archive new facebook page for more pictures and insights into the collections!
A happy, healthy year to all!
