All City-owned parking lots will be open for free public parking through Monday, January 21st. In the case of a declared Snow Emergency, street parking on designated Snow Emergency Routes is prohibited. Please see the Snow Emergency Route Map below for additional information.
  • A Warming Center will be open at the Public Safety Building (505 Main Street) on Monday, January 21st and Tuesday, January 22nd from 8am to 5pm. Individuals who need a warm place during the day are encouraged to utilize the center.
  • Sanitation & recycling collection will occur on Friday, January 18th for all Friday collection routes. Collection is suspended on Monday, January 21st due to the holiday (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).
  • Residents are asked to wait until the roads have been cleared by City plows before beginning to clear snow from driveways & sidewalks.
  • Fire hydrants must remain clear and accessible in case of emergency. Please see attached Safety Message regarding clearing snow from Fire Hydrants near your property (see below).
Snow Emergency Route Map
Attached is the City’s Snow Emergency Route Map. In the event of a Snow Emergency declaration, all residents are advised to check the map to inquire if your street is part of the Emergency Route. Each one of the seven snow fighting sections has a pre-established priority listing of streets to salt and plow. Priorities are established by the following street designations:
  • Snow Emergency Routes (heavily traveled/hospital access roads)
  • Arterials (Routes 44 and 55)
  • Steep graded hills and sharp curves
  • Residential streets
  • Cul-de-Sacs and dead-ends

Bardavon Launches 150th Birthday Celebration With
Free Community Open House

A Highlight of Poughkeepsie’s Monthly First Friday Event: February 1, 2019 – 5:00 to 7:00 pm

The Bardavon 1869 Opera House, Inc. will celebrate 150 years of presenting legendary performances in the Hudson Valley with a free open house for residents and visitors on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Bardavon, 35 Market Street in Poughkeepsie, on the exact 150th anniversary of the theater’s opening night in 1869, and as a highlight of the City’s monthly First Friday community arts event.

The Birthday Open House will launch a year of special events celebrating the Bardavon’s role as the community’s theater—a gathering place for diverse arts programs that have entertained, educated, and enlightened generations since Poughkeepsie merchant James Collingwood first built it for his City. As guests arrive, they will be greeted by the Juilliard-trained Wholly Brass Band performing a variety of tunes from across the decades. Henry's at the Farm of Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa will provide complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and low-cost beverages will be available at the lobby bar.

At 6pm, City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rollison will join Executive Director Chris Silva to lead a birthday toast and cut the Mark Twain cake designed and donated by Frieda’s Bakery. Throughout the gathering, guests will be free to roam the theater, walk across the stage and visit dressing rooms, where crew and staff will be on hand to describe what happens behind-the-scenes, and to share stories about the many performing artists and dignitaries who have visited—from Mr. Twain, Edwin Booth and John Philip Sousa to Tyrone Power and FDR to John Legend, Aretha Franklin, and more. House Organist Juan Cardona will also provide demonstrations on the Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ, built for the Bardavon in 1927 and one of the few of its kind still in use in its original theater location.

At 7:00, the Wholly Brass Band will lead guests through the stage door at the back of the theater to continue the Birthday and First Friday celebrations at the King’s Court Brewing Company on Cannon Street. Plans for additional 150th events are under way and will be announced soon at www.bardavon.org.
