Dear all,
There is water coming from the heavens as I write this morning. Yesterday, we celebrated the Baptism of Our Lord, and I wondered in my sermon, with some more seasoned theologians than I, if John the Baptist got it wrong, and if the baptism of the Holy Spirit was more about the fire of Love (rather than judgment), which nothing can quench.
I am so often aware of my reflexive, even sometimes unconscious need to project myself on others. (From how I drive to what I long for...it's so ingrained that I hardly notice it.)
I am also aware of a powerful desire to be free of this burden – to not make assumptions or conclusions about, say, the driving habits of others; the choices of others that make me sad, frustrated, or pained; the way I want us all to be my idea of "whole" people.
And, of course, that's God's work, not mine.
The idea that Jesus came be the one who takes away our need for sacrifice (the sacrifice of others, of our own judgments, the cultural need for outsiders/scapegoats) is one of such profound freedom. It's also very hard work.
I'm offering up, in my prayers, my desire to live into this way of deepest peace. Join me in your prayers?
May God's healing love light us each on fire with the desire to be alight for Christ, to let God be God, and to be free in God's love.

our life together, the space where we worship, and more.

Any purple grape juice is fine.
