PTSA Advocacy Chair Needed
LBJ/LASA PTSA is seeking an Advocacy Chair who will lead us in efforts to advocate for school finance reform and other legislative issues. The position entails about an hour  per week between now and the end of the school year.  If interested please email lbjlasaptsa@gmail.com.
The Austin Council of PTAs (ACPTA) will be supporting school communities to get the information needed to rally the key priorities.  Sign up for Advocacy updates from ACPTA  by emailing advocacy@austincouncilpta.org.

Here are things ACPTA Advocacy Chair Sonya Kaleel has said we can do to get informed and be involved:

1. Mark your calendar for PTA Rally Day! Feb 25, 2019
For Facebook users, see ACPTA's event page to get updates on plans as they are announced.
For those NOT on Facebook, get updates from the ACPTA Advocacy Google Group by sending an email to: advo...@austincouncilpta.org
2. Plug into actions for the #JustFundItTX campaign. An exciting new campaign is underway to address school finance! It's made up of a growing group of parents, teachers, and students across Texas who have one clear request for Texas legislators: Do the right thing - adequately fund public education! 3. Read the Texas PTA Legislative Priorities.
4. Read the Austin ISD Legislative Priorities.
Free Practice ACT and SAT
LASA is partnering with More than a Teacher this spring semester to offer FREE practice tests for juniors and sophomores. Taking free practice tests is a great way for students to find out which test is better suited to their strengths before taking the real thing. The free practice ACT will be held on Saturday, January 19th, and the free practice SAT will be held on Saturday, January 26th. Both will be held in the LASA/LBJ Theater from 9:00am to 12:30pm. Students will walk out that day with a score and test booklet. Both opportunities are FREE, but students must sign up through the More than a Teacher registration sites listed below. There will be a cap on the number of students who can sign up so do not delay in registering if you want to participate.

Register here for the practice ACT on January 19.

Register here for the practice SAT on January 26.

We realize these dates won't work for everyone, but fortunately, many of the test prep companies offer free practice tests around Austin and online:
