State College Area High School will be implementing a new statewide initiative that lets students and others anonymously report tips such as security concerns. (Min Xian/WPSU)
  • Safe2Say Something — Pa.’s anonymous reporting system for schools — goes live today across the state. The hope is that students, teachers, parents and others will use the system to report signs of abuse, troubling behaviors and other concerns. Anne Danahy did a story about it for WPSU.

  • Two counties are launching a new program to try to help women who are addicted to opioids and who are pregnant or new mothers. “Healthy MOMS” will connect women with providers of prenatal and postpartum care, behavioral health, addiction treatment and other services in Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties. Their rate of hospitalized infants born dependent on drugs has been double the state average for the last couple years, according to this story about the initiative.

  • A panel of judges ruled recently that the DEP unlawfully issued air-quality permits for Sunoco’s natural gas plant at Marcus Hook in Delaware County. They’ve ordered the state to re-do its emissions analysis, taking issue with the fact that regulators should have treated the plant as a single entity instead of treating sections of it as separate, independent ones. In the meantime, the company can keep operating. StateImpact Pennsylvania has the full story.
