New Exhibition

Starts on 1 Feb 2019

The Museum's new exhibition,

"Model Engineering - Micro, Macro, Meccano"

starts on 1st February and will run until the end of April.

It brings together an eclectic mix of items made by modellers from as far afield as Sheffield and includes Roman siege engines, historic aircraft, early Victorian industrial machinery, Meccano models of machinery associated with coal, and of course quite a few examples of railway engines and rolling stock which would have been seen in this area.

Some of the Meccano models will be able to be operated.

During the course of the exhibition we hope to have a number of related activities going on, mainly aimed at younger visitors.

Half Term Activities

Once again we plan to open the Museum every day during half term from 11am to 5 pm, subject to being able to provide sufficient volunteers to fill all the positions.

There will be a new trail all week featuring Thomas the Tank Engine, suitable for younger children. Plus Lego and Brio to use.

And for older children there are working Meccano Models all featuring items to do with coal mining (not available during the children's event morning on Thursday)

Children's Event

Lots of activities, including a teddy bear zip wire, making and testing a parachute, making a hot air balloon and a plane and more.

Other Children's Activities During Half Term

Shop

The shop is currently undergoing a makeover, ready for the start of the new season on 1st February. Pop in to see the changes and find out what’s new.

Remember, every penny from the shop helps fund museum activities.
The Website

We apologise for the loss of the website over the Christmas and New Year period. We experienced some sort of "external infection" the reason for which and its origin are not clear.

Suffice it to say that the site is now disinfected and up and running again.
