Principal's News

Lockdown
We held a 15 minute lockdown drill on Thursday. Students were instructed to proceed to their classrooms and remain in the locked classroom until the drill concluded. Unlike an intruder drill, classroom activities continue throughout the duration of a lockdown scenario. However, no one is permitted to enter or leave the building, or the classroom while a lockdown is taking place. If a real lockdown occurs, it will be announced via the Remind app and Facebook.

Lastly, Spring Fling 2019 is fast approaching.  We are in need of several volunteers to make this year’s event another successful one.  Spring Fling is our biggest and last fundraiser of the 2018-2019 school year.  Please click the link below to sign up or contact me for assistance.

Let's show 'em...
... how generous the St. John School community is. Our church is participating in a clothing drive for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Adult and children's used, but in good condition, clothing will be collected through Catholic Schools Week and be delivered to those in need in Northeast Iowa. You can deliver the clothing in person or send it to school with your student.

STO
The School Tuition Organization is now accepting financial aid applications (online only). This is the website link https://online.factsmgt.com/aid. A significant change for the 2019-20 school year is that all families that file taxes will be required to submit their 2018 tax return. In order to give families more time to complete and upload their 2018 tax return, the deadline for round #1 has been extended to April 15. Important: You must apply for  STO in order to qualify for Kucera Grant and local tuition assistance scholarship money.

Tuition Tax Credit
The updated information and form for for tuition tax credit can be accessed by clicking HERE. The credit is equal to 25% of the first $1,000 of the total for each child. The maximum credit per child is $250.

Tuition Tax Statements
The tuition tax statements are done for K-8 tuition and preschool/daycare expenses.  They will be going home with report cards on January 25th.  If you need them before, please stop in and pick them up in the office.

Lunch Balances
Just a reminder to parents that lunch notices are not being sent home this year.  PowerSchool allows you to check your balance online as well as receive email notifications when balances are low.  We have several accounts that are in need of attention.  If you have any questions, please call the school.  Thank you!
