Episcopal Election - Diocese of Glasgow & Galloway
The Preparatory Committee preparing for the Episcopal Election in the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway will meet on Saturday 12 January. Please continue to hold them in prayer. The Committee hopes to complete its work by 4 February. The result of that work will be announced on 5 February when it is expected that there will be a list of names of short-listed candidates that will then be presented to the electors of the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway at a preliminary meeting on 9 March, with the election of the new Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway on 16 March.

Recognition of Service
Maureen O'Neill, Director of Faith in Older People in the Diocese of Edinburgh, was awarded an OBE for services to older people and to voluntary organisations in the New Year Honours List for 2019.

Investment Consultation
The Investment Committee is responsible for the administration of the Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) Unit Trust Pool (UTP). This includes setting the investment strategy and liaising with professional fund managers regarding its implementation. In order to provide greater flexibility and cost efficiencies, the Committee wishes to make changes to the strategy which would have implications for the SEC’s Ethical Investment Policy. The Committee is aware that that there will be a range of views throughout the SEC in relation to the proposed change and recognises that the issue should be discussed by General Synod later this year. To help inform both the Committee’s thinking on the issue and General Synod’s discussion of it the Committee will shortly be contacting vestries and others within the SEC providing more information about the proposed change and inviting comment on it. The Committee would welcome contributions from any members of the SEC. The information, including a link to the online survey, will shortly be made available on the SEC website here.

The Scottish Episcopal Institute Journal
The Winter 2018/19 volume of the Scottish Episcopal Institute Journal is now available online here.
The Journal is a vehicle for debate on current issues in the Anglican Communion and beyond. It invites dialogue on what it means to think as an Episcopalian in Scotland in the twenty-first century.
The Scottish Episcopal Institute hopes the Journal to be a catalyst for prayer and theological reflection at the heart of the Scottish Episcopal Church.
The Journal – peer-reviewed, electronic and free-of-cost – welcomes previously unpublished contributions. Each issue of the Journal is in two sections: Articles of 2,000 to 5,000 words (including citations) that offer a focused contribution to the life of the church on any level (allowing for articles beyond 5,000 words to appear in parts); and Book Reviews of 500 to 1,500 words that appraise and discuss contemporary theological, liturgical, pastoral and ministerial works.

Notices
Rev Samantha Ferguson resigned as Rector at St John the Evangelist, Pittenweem and St Michael and All Angels, Elie on 31 December 2018 and has taken up the post as Chaplain at St Andrews University, St Andrews.
Rev Ruth Green will resign as Rector at St David of Scotland, Edinburgh on 16 January 2019 and will be appointed Priest-in-Charge at St James, Aberdeen on 17 January 2019.
Rev Eliska Fiona Jo Mulliner will be appointed Rector at St Saviour, Bridge of Allan on 16 February 2019.
Deaths:
Rev Canon Peter Allen died on 25 December 2018 aged 84. He served as Curate at St Mary Magdalene & Holy Cross, Coventry 1962-65. He was Curate at Church of the Advent and Episcopal Chaplain at North East University, Boston 1965-66, and then Chaplain and Tutor at Jesus College, Cambridge 1966-72. He served as Chaplain at King's School, Canterbury and as Minor Canon at Canterbury Cathedral 1972-87. He was Senior Chaplain at Sedbergh School, Cumbria 1987-93 and Priest-in-Charge at St Ninian's, Edinburgh 1993-2006. He was installed Canon at the Cathedral Church of St Mary, Edinburgh 1994-2010. He was Tutor at Theological Institute of the Scottish Episcopal Church 1994-2001 and Chaplain at Edinburgh Academy 1999-2007. He served as the Episcopal Chaplain at Fettes College 2002-12. He retired in 2006. He was installed as Honorary Canon at the Cathedral Church of St Mary, Edinburgh 2010 and held a commission in the Diocese of Edinburgh 2006-17 and warrant 2017-18.
Prebendary Jonathan Eades died on 28 December 2018 aged 67. He served as Chaplain at St Paul's Cathedral, Dundee 1977-88 and at Dundee University 1979-88. He was Team Vicar for Leek and Meerbrook 1988-96 and Rural Dean for Leek 1993-96. He served as Vicar for Wolstanton 1996-2008 and then served as Priest-in-Charge for Ashley and Mucklestone and as Curate for Broughton with Croxton & Cotes Heath with Standon 2008-09. He was Rector for Ashley and Mucklestone and Broughtoin and Croxton 2009-16 and was Prebendary at Lichfield Cathedral 2008-16. He retired in 2016.
Rev Ronald Thorpe Fleming died on 15 December 2018 aged 89. He served in Barbados 1956-61. He was Assistant Curate at Delaval 1961-64 and Vicar for Cambois 1964-69. He served as Vicar for Scremerston 1969-81 and Vicar for Longhirst 1981-84. He was Chaplain for North Tyneside Health Authority 1984-94. He retired in 1994. During his retirement he served as Honorary Assistant Curate at St John the Evangelist, Forres 2004-08 and held a warrant in the Diocese of Moray, Ross & Caithness 2006-18.
Professor John Starr died on 8 December 2018 aged 58. He served as Lay Reader at St Columba, Bathgate in the Diocese of Edinburgh.

2019 Christian Aid Gatherings
A series of Christian Aid (CA) Gatherings is being arranged where Christian Aid supporters can come together to learn more about the themes that Christian Aid work on, and also get small practical examples of how people can give, act and pray year round with them. The keynote speaker at all venues will be Jeanne Kamara, the head of the Christian Aid team in Sierra Leone, who will talk about the diverse nature of CA’s work in that area, and will explain how the team there dealt with Ebola.
The Gatherings are open to all and will take place at the following venues (10am - 1pm):
- Tuesday 26 February: St. John's Episcopal Church, Princes St, Edinburgh, EH2 4BJ
- Wednesday 27 February: Holburn West Church, 9 Ashley Park Drive, Aberdeen, AB10 6RY
- Thursday 28 February: Inshes Church of Scotland, Sir Walter Scott Drive, Inverness, IV2 3TW
- Friday 1 March: Wheatley House, 25 Cochrane Street, Glasgow, G1 1HL

The Church in Medieval Scotland
Dr John Davies, convener of the Liturgy Committee will deliver a talk on The Church in Medieval Scotland at St Aidan's, Clarkston on Mondays 4, 11, 18 and 25 February at 7pm.
Dr Davies is a fellow of Scottish History at the University of Glasgow.
