BUSINESS INSIGHTS

Part of your goals, and your business plan, should be enjoying the rewards of business.

So are you? Have you even set rewards? Do you know what you are working towards?

These may be tough questions, but they need to be asked as you set in place your goals for the new year. Keep in mind, rewards do not need to be extravagant or elaborate, but should resonate with you, and these rewards should be more than the outcome of your goal.

If you need a partner to bounce ideas around with, reach out, I'm enjoying mentoring with small business owners to help them find their rewards for business.

ENTREPRENEUR REVIEW

Assisting business owners successfully organise and manage their business is the primary role for a Online Business Manager / Virtual Assistant. They know what it takes to run a business and can take some of the pressure off so that it looks like you do it all!

Many VAs choose to offer a broad range of services, however Sam McFarlane decided that social media services were the way forward for her business.

Business name - Sam Says

Website  https://www.samsays.com.au/

How did the business originate? The business idea came up when I was looking for an alternative to working in corporate. With 2 small children, I got sick of the constant juggle and thought there must be a better way. I saw a need for social media assistance for small business owners, and then my business really just developed from there.

How long have you been in this business? Six years!

What do you love about your business? I love the flexibility having my own business gives me and also working from home. I also get to work with some pretty amazing  clients which I absolutely love.

Is there anything you dislike? Not really.

Favourite food: Is chocolate a food?

Favourite colour:  Pink

Favourite drink: non alcoholic would be chai latte and alcoholic would be Champagne.

Favourite movie: Love Actually is such a classic that always makes me feel good.

Favourite time of the day: Bedtime. I actually really like getting up early in the morning when no one else is awake. It’s so peaceful!

Favourite item in your office: My laptop

Favourite app on your phone/tablet/computer: Instagram

What book are you reading right now? The One Minute Commute by Robert Gerrish

Which 3 people (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party? Why? Richard Brandon, Gary Vaynerchuk and Tony Robbins for their business insights and experiences. I think all of these men are so wise and I’d just love to hear them talk. I’d be like a sponge!

Name 3 things on your bucket list: 1. Travel to the Maldives and stay in an overwater bungalow, 2. A trip to Canada 3. A family holiday to Disneyland

What do you like to do for yourself? Take time out to do yoga or have a massage or facial

Who do you seek advice from? My mum usually and my husband!

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting their own business?  I think I would say to get everything lined up and start making money before you dive in head first to make sure it is going to work.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of working with a OBM/VA? Write a list of tasks you want to outsource and find a VA who specialises in those tasks.

What is your tip for a work/life balance?  It’s a constant juggle, but you actually have to schedule in the things you want to do in order for them to happen.

APP REVIEW

This month my app review has nothing to do with business.

WTForecast is a weather app that takes weather forecasting to a whole other level. With obnoxious (and sometimes downright rude) phrases describing the current weather conditions, as sometimes cold, wet or hot become inadequate descriptions of the current weather. Have a laugh with it!

This app is available on both the App Store and Google Play.

ON THE BLOG

Your home office should be a extension of yourself and promote productivity. It should encourage focus rather than distraction and be a place want to spend time in.

It is about having a space that positively influences you and enhances the work you do there.

SMALL BIZ TIP

Are you still avoiding video in your business?

With information predicting that 80% of content consumed will be video, its time to get comfortable in front of the camera. Add to that 90% of users state that product videos are helpful in decision making and including a video on a landing page can increase conversion rates by up to 80%.

All the social platforms have adjusted their algorithms to favour video, and I am seeing more business owners use video across all areas of their business, including courses and general customer assistance.

If you require assistance with putting together a video strategy to promote your business, we are here to help.
