It's Time To ReThink Grocery!
You've seen the store being built from the ground up, you've watched as additional entrances to the parking lot were paved, and now... it's time for Lidl's Grand Opening! We encourage you to visit Lidl at 621 S. Philadelphia Blvd. on January 16th as they officially open their doors to the public.
Lidl has informed shoppers that the first 100 customers will be greeted by the Store Manager, and presented with a special gift card ranging from $5 to $100! Shoppers can also sample Lidl products and receive a complimentary Lidl reusable bag while supplies last. The fun continues throughout the Grand Opening Weekend with games, activities, prizes, special deals and giveaways.  So, stop by on the 16th to welcome Lidl to Aberdeen!
Aberdeen On The Move
2019 will be a great year for Aberdeen! We look forward to Starbucks opening along Route 22, the perfect location for APG commuters to stop for their morning Frappuccino's, lattes, or muffins.
We've all seen the former Beverage Barn on Route 40 transform into a state of the art Lidl grocery. The German based store offers high quality products at low prices along with hassle-free shopping that gets you in and out.
Prost German Restaurant has gone from an old
, unoccupied building to a popping blue staple of our town. We can't wait to enjoy traditional German and Bavarian cuisine and raise a glass with friends!
Roadwork will
start this Spring on the Middelton Road extension. This will allow commuters to flow from Route 22 to Beards Hill Road (right next to our newest java business).  Also, later this year work will begin on redoing West Belair from SR22 to the train track.  We'll continue watching as Upper Chesapeake Health comes to Aberdeen. This is a multi-million-dollar medical campus planning to offer a full-service 24/7 Emergency Department, medical stay beds, imaging, lab and cardiovascular testing, and more!

Farmer's Market Now Accepting Applications
May is right around the corner, and it's time to begin planning activities for the 2019 Aberdeen Farmer's Market season. We're excited to announce that Aberdeen was just awarded a sizeable grant from Harford County’s Agriculture Department to help our Markets expand and flourish. Residents will soon receive a postcard in the mail detailing a list of vendors, promotional Market dates, and more.
Are you a farmer? Do you dabble in homemade items? Have your friends exclaimed that your pies are the best around?
Then Aberdeen Farmers Market’s may be just what you’ve been looking for! Located in downtown Festival Park, Markets will run every Thursday beginning May 2nd through August 29th from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Spots are inexpensive and there’s a discount if you sign up for the entire season.
The Markets are a great location to get your name out to the public and interact with your customers one-on-one.
Aside from the quality and variety, what sets the Aberdeen Farmer's Market apart is our promotional nights. Throughout the season you’ll sprinklers set up for the kids, musicians jamming under a shade tree, a Christmas in July visit from Santa, free Ironbirds tickets, painting, raffles, and much more! Your Aberdeen Farmers Market is a celebration of community coming together, enjoying an evening in the Park.  If you are interested in becoming a vendor, please contact the Market Manager, Ms. Banuelos at FBanuelos@Aberdeenmd.gov or call (410) 297-4212.

If You’re 55 or More “Mature”, Then Harford County Wants To Hear From You!

Harford County is interested in your feedback on a proposal to expand recreational programming at the Aberdeen Senior Center building located at 7 Franklin Street.
On March 2, 2018, Winter Storm Riley caused significant damage to the Aberdeen Senior Center building at 7 Franklin Street.  Senior programs and bus service were diverted to the Havre de Grace Activity Center and have continued there since that time. Unlike the smaller Aberdeen Senior Center, the Havre de Grace Activity Center is a full-service building that includes a gymnasium, fitness room, daily lunch service and activities, and a full range of classes for seniors.
With the building repairs nearly completed at the Aberdeen site, this is a good opportunity to re-evaluate the best use of the building.  The leaders of the Harford Senior’s Activity Centers are proposing to offer recreational programming for all ages under Harford County Parks & Recreation at the Aberdeen Senior Center this spring.  Wow, a real Rec Center until the full sized one is completed!  Not only would this allow some senior programming to continue at that location, it would also provide a facility for additional recreational programming for Aberdeen citizens of all ages.   As always, seniors can use any of Harford County’s Senior Centers that they desire.  We are also seeking input on which recreational programs are of interest to the community for the future Aberdeen Activity Center.  This will be a full-service building, similar to the current facilities in Havre de Grace, Bel Air and Fallston.

The survey deadline is January 10, 2019. To participate, please click here.

Trash, trash everywhere . . .
Hey Aberdeen!  Rolling into 2019 we all need to do a little better with our trash problem.  Yes, like nearly every city in the U.S., Aberdeen has a trash problem.  The first photo shows what was picked up by one person on a small portion of SR 22 in about 90 minutes; including that blue plastic truck bumper.  The second shot is from private property in the rear of the Beards Hill Plaza, where someone dumped a load of bathroom toilets.  Pretty sad, but the police will hopefully identify who is responsible.  One thing a prospective new business wants when considering a site is a clean area; so every bit of litter thrown from a car window can come back to haunt us.  And who better than you to pick it up?  Waiting for the City to pick street side litter means it will likely stay on the ground until a volunteer comes along; the City doesn't employ anyone to do this.  So be the change you look for in others and pitch in to build an Aberdeen we're proud of.  Please do your part.

2019 Trash Collection Guide
The new year is right around the corner and many residents have began asking for the 2019 Trash Collection Guide. This guide keeps you informed on holiday adjustments to pickups, lets you know when your yard waste will be taken, and other important information on trash, recycling, bulk, and yard waste.
To download and print your 2019 guide, please
click here. Hang it on the fridge, in the garage near your Toters, or anywhere else that’s easily accessible. While we try to inform residents of upcoming trash schedule changes due to holidays or weather incidents, it's a good idea to keep this guide handy.
