Consider a New Career in Competitive Skating

Maybe now's the time to develop a random but time-consuming passion for the ice? The National Gallery ice skating rink may be closed, but the one at Washington Harbour--DC's largest outdoor ice skating rink--is still open for business! If you want to burn calories without the blades, Athleta (3229 M St NW) is inviting all federal employees to a free fitness event on January 12 from 9 am - 10 am. Join them for a free high-intensity partner-style workout led by Ashley Reese of Reese Fitness. RSVP for free here.

Let the Feel of Wet Pottery Bring You Peace

Many of DC's museums are closed, but fortunately there are plenty of cultural options--and one opportunity to recreate that Ghost scene--open in Georgetown. Visit the art galleries on Book Hill, tour the Federal-period historic house museum of Dumbarton House, take a pottery class at Hinckley Pottery, or enjoy live music at Blues Alley jazz supper club, or Gypsy Sally's.

Show Your Appreciation for the Unsung Heroes

Georgetown Waterfront Park, the C&O Canal, Francis Scott Key Park, and other Georgetown sites are maintained by the National Park Service, but we aren't letting the shutdown stop visitors from enjoying these public spaces. The Georgetown BID Clean Team members are the unsung heroes of our neighborhood--doing daily inspections of the federal park areas in Georgetown in the midst of the shutdown. They've removed more than 100 bags of trash from those areas since the shutdown began--and will continue to do so. We're thankful to have such a hardworking and dedicated team to keep Georgetown clean, no matter what!
