Yesterday was a difficult day for many of us in the Beaches East-York community and after speaking with police, I'd like to recognize the vigilant members of our community that led to the speedy arrest of the shooters. Please find my thoughts on the Woodbine and Queen shooting below:

STATEMENT FROM COUNCILLOR BRADFORD ON EAST-END SHOOTING:
"Just days into the New Year and Toronto's East End has already witnessed multiple acts of serious gun violence. The brazen daylight shooting yesterday at Woodbine and Queen has left our community understandably shaken and looking for answers. Paired with the shooting at Main and Danforth last month, it is clear that there is much more we can do to address gun crime in Toronto.
We greatly appreciate the Province announcing $25 million this summer to address gun violence and gang-related crime as well as the Federal Government committing $7 million to address gun violence in Toronto. But even with this additional funding, it has become clear to me that we need to focus on preventing these acts of violence through programming and outreach. That is why, I will be advocating to expand Toronto's risk intervention and violence prevention programs so we can truly address the root causes of gun crime in our city.
It is my strong belief that every community in Toronto should feel safe from acts of violence. As we move forward I will continue to work with 55 Division and our community partners to understand what I can do as Councillor to ensure our community is safe. We are working to schedule our first community meeting in January where we will be discussing this issue at the top of the agenda."
