Quote of the day - "They must like me." - In an exclusive interview with ESPN FC's Raphael Honigstein, Christian Pulisic has admitted the fee Chelsea paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund has him excited about moving to Stamford Bridge, and says it shows how much the Premier League giants want him at the club. Last week, the 20-year-old midfielder completed a €64 million (£57.6m, $73.1m) deal to join the Blues in what was a record transaction for an American player.

USMNT: PSG and USA midfielder Timothy Weah loaned to Scottish side Celtic

Paris Saint-Germain forward Timothy Weah has completed a loan to Celtic for the rest of the season, the clubs announced on Monday. Weah, 18, also put pen to paper on an additional one-year deal at Parc des Princes before making the move. The United States international has struggled for minutes this season since the arrival of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as backup to Edinson Cavani, and late loan offers in the summer were rebuffed by PSG. The son of Ballon d'Or winner George Weah, Timothy, who scored his first senior goal for the U.S. against Bolivia in May and netted his first competitive goals for PSG in August, has no option to buy in his deal with the Scottish giants. Should Weah impress at Celtic Park and show signs of development, a source told ESPN FC that he will likely remain there for the entirety of next season. PSG and Celtic are on good terms after Odsonne Edouard joined the Scottish champions permanently in the summer following a successful loan spell. (ESPNFC)

CONCACAF: Ex-Atlanta United boss Gerardo 'Tata' Martino named Mexico manager

Gerardo "Tata" Martino, who was officially unveiled as Mexico manager by that country's federation on Monday, said he thinks Mexico have evolved to be "among the best" over the past 20 years. Martino's official acceptance and the announcement of the deal ended several months' worth of speculation that Martino -- who won the 2018 MLS Coach of the Year award with Atlanta United -- would take over El Tri at the conclusion of the season. In his presentation at federation offices in Mexico City on Monday, the Argentina native singled out Mexico's development as the main reason he took the job offer. "I saw Mexico as one of the teams that has evolved the most in the last 20 years," Martino told reporters. "To be able to play right up there with some of the best in the world shows how far Mexico have come... Martino led Atlanta to the MLS Cup this season, where the second-year side defeated Portland Timbers 2-0 in the final. He had said in October that he would leave Atlanta after the campaign... Prior to joining Atlanta, Martino led the Argentina national team back to a No. 1 FIFA world ranking in 2015 and guided the Paraguay national team to their best-ever World Cup performance in 2010. On the club side, the former South American Coach of the Year also managed Barcelona to a second-place La Liga finish in the 2013-14 season. Martino also took over relegation-threatened Argentine club Newell's Old Boys in 2011 and helped them to the Torneo Final title in 2013, reaching the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores the same year. MLS: 2019 schedule released; FC Cincinnati debut vs Seattle Sounders

MLS announced its full schedule for the 2019 regular season on Monday. The season's slate of games is highlighted by the debut of FC Cincinnati, who will play its first game on the road against the Seattle Sounders on March 2, and will play its first home game in MLS against MLS Cup finalist the Portland Timbers on March 17. The schedule is also noteworthy for a pair of stadium-related events. Minnesota United will celebrate the opening of Allianz Field on April 13 when it hosts New York City FC, becoming the 20th MLS stadium built or renovated for soccer. Portland's Providence Park will reopen on June 1 when the Timbers face LAFC, this after undergoing renovations to add 4,000 seats to increase the venue's capacity to around 25,000. The league will go on a brief hiatus from June 14-21, a period covering the start of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The MLS All-Star Game will take place at Orlando City Stadium on July 31. Teams will place conference opponents twice each and teams in opposite conference once. There have been times in the past where certain rivals (such as the San Jose Earthquakes and the Galaxy) played three times a year. The regular season will conclude with Decision Day on Oct. 6. The MLS Cup Playoffs -- utilizing a new single elimination format -- will begin on Oct. 19, with the MLS Cup final set to take place on Nov. 10.

FA Cup: Wolves dump Liverpool our of FA Cup

Wolves rode goals from Raul Jimenez and Ruben Neves to a 2-1 FA Cup third-round win against Liverpool on Monday night at Molineux. Jurgen Klopp started a young and heavily rotated XI and was forced to bring on even more youth squad players when Dejan Lovren was replaced by 16-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever after the Croatian pulled up with an injury in the opening minutes. Hoever, who Liverpool signed from Ajax in September 2018, joined Jerome Sinclair and Jack Robinson as the only 16-year-olds to play in a senior match and is the youngest player to ever play for the Reds in the FA Cup. The hosts would go one up ahead of half-time after a James Milner giveaway in midfield allowed Jimenez to break and the Mexico international calmly dispatching his shot past Simon Mignolet to make it 1-0 at the break. Liverpool got back on level terms soon after the restart, though, when Divock Origi picked up a loose ball at the top of Wolves' penalty area and smashed a lovely, left-footed shot into the back of John Ruddy's net. However, Liverpool's lead was short-lived after Ruben Vinagre picked out Neves at the other end and the Portuguese launched a low, swerving shot from 25 yards away that beat Mignolet at the near post. Tuesday morning transfer talk

Source: ESPNFC
  • Chelsea are considering a £50 million bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, according to a report in the Daily Express. The 31-year-old Uruguay international would be the perfect fit for Maurizio Sarri's high-octane style, and is one of the best strikers in the world when it comes to work rate.
  • Man United are looking for a new defender. Things have improved under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but United are still keen to land a top defensive target in January and have reportedly set eyes on Roma's Kostas Manolas. The Greece international would cost €36 million due to a release clause in his contract, but there's a problem: it does not become active until after the January transfer window, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.
  • Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Inter are drafting another contract extension for star striker Mauro Icardi -- whose deal expires in 2021 -- worth €7m a year after their last offer of €6m annually fell €2m short of the Argentine's demands, amid interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea.
  • Celtic have confirmed the loan signing of Paris Saint-Germain attacker and U.S. international Timothy Weah, who will move to Parkhead through the end of the season.
  • With Cesc Fabregas on the verge of joining Monaco, Chelsea have identified 21-year-old Nicolo Barella of Cagliari and Zenit Saint Petersburg's 24-year-old Argentine Leandro Paredes as potential replacements, and the Mail cites Corriere dello Sport as reporting that Blues boss Maurizio Sarri wants a deal tied up for Fabregas' heir by the end of the week.
