A Letter from Your Elder

Dear Grace Family,

As we begin our second “Seek” season of fasting and prayer, I can imagine two potential attitudes of heart, and I’d like to address both.

You may be a bit hesitant about this. Perhaps you didn’t participate last year, or just were slightly involved. The talk of fasting and extra prayer times seems daunting. My word to you would be that it’s time to dive in. If you’ve never fasted, let Seek be an introduction for you. Start small. Choose one of the suggested ways of fasting that you can actually do, and join it with your prayers related to the theme of the week. And choose a time to spend each day focused on this particular theme of prayer. I will be going to a number of lunch time prayer meetings (they will be in the prayer room at the church) to join with others in the effort—we do this together for a reason. We benefit from learning how to fast and pray together.

You may, like me, be excited and eager to get started.  Perhaps you remember last year and saw the Lord work in your life and in our church and can’t wait. My one encouragement to you (and to my own heart) would be to look for ways to take the experience beyond what you learned last year, and seek to help others join in who may hesitant. Let’s build on last year and help even more people discover the joys of corporate seeking after God.

This Sunday, we begin!

Sincerely,
Pastor Craig Miller
Seek is our annual 40 day season of prayer and fasting. This year, we are asking God to help us be the people we have said we want to be. As a family, we have committed to six core values that we want to characterize us as a church (repentance, worship, transformation, community, service and mission). Each week of Seek will be dedicated to pursuing one of these core values in a deeper, more powerful way. Fasting for Beginners
"We fast in this life because we believe in the life to come. We don’t have to get it all here and now, because we have a promise that we will have it all in the coming age. We fast from what we can see and taste, because we have tasted and seen the goodness of the invisible and infinite God — and are desperately hungry for more of him."
