Happy New Year! A Message from Mary Ann Dickinson

Dear Colleagues,

2018 was a very big year for CalWEP. We launched as a shiny new organization, unveiled an ambitious strategic plan, hosted several of our most well attended events, and conducted an extensive listening tour to hear from our members and partners. All this work has positioned us for an exciting 2019.

This year, we're keeping the momentum by launching critical initiatives to help members comply with new state regulations, organizing even more learning and networking opportunities, unveiling a brand new website and will be continuing to grow our partnerships with businesses and community based organizations to expand our reach and increase our ability to spark collaboration across the state.

As you may have heard by now, my tenure as Executive Director is coming to a close here in California. I will soon be transitioning back to full time as CEO of the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE). Because of CalWEP's new partnership with the Alliance, I'll remain very involved in all our work but we feel it's time for CalWEP to have a full-time, permanent ED in place. Please see below for a link to the job description and send any candidates our way.

Finally, for new and returning members, please watch your mailboxes for 2019 membership invoices over the next couple of weeks! We are mailing these out and appreciate your attention to them. For prospective members, we would love to have you join us. Please reach out to schedule an exploratory conversation to hear about all that CalWEP and AWE can offer your organization.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2019!

Mary Ann Dickinson, Executive Director

CalWEP to hire new Executive Director in 2019

After two years serving double duty as both the Alliance for Water Efficiency's President and CEO and CalWEP's Executive Director, Mary Ann Dickinson will be stepping down from her role with CalWEP and returning to full time work with the Alliance. Mary Ann has been instrumental in shepherding CalWEP through the past two years of transition and strategic planning. Of course, because CalWEP is now a chapter of AWE, she will remain closely involved in the organization's future.

CalWEP is now beginning its search for a permanent Executive Director to join a committed and ambitious staff working to support our members and advance water conservation and efficiency across the state of California. The full job description can be downloaded here.

Are you or do you know someone interested in applying? Please let us know! Email Sarah Foley with suggestions, recommendations or referrals. Application will be accepted through February 1, 2019.

Pass the Hat Funding Opportunity: Framework Compliance Tools

To help our member agencies comply with the new water conservation laws, CalWEP is actively seeking contributions towards the development of two new tools: The first tool would be used to determine compliance with new State Urban Water Use Standards. The second would be used to attain or ensure compliance through planned design of intentional WUE programs.

A full proposal for these tools can be downloaded here. If you think your agency might be willing to chip in to help fund this project, please contact Mary Ann Dickinson at maryann@calwep.org.

Congratulations Lisa Cuellar and the Water Leaders Class of 2018

CalWEP would like to congratulate staff member, Lisa Cuellar, for her recent graduation from the Water Education Foundation’s William R. Gianelli Water Leader Class at the end of November. The competitive, one-year program is geared toward early to mid-career up-and-coming community leaders across California and various stakeholder groups. The program deepens knowledge on water, enhances individual leadership skills and prepares class members to take an active, cooperative approach to decision-making about water resource issues.

Collectively, the 2018 class prepared a comprehensive report addressing improved water management through the use of “big data”, as well as policy recommendations focused on the successful implementation of AB 1755 (known as the Open and Transparent Water Data Act).  The report can be accessed here
