Recent News

School to Work Alliance Program 
The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) will accept Requests for Application (RFA) from Districts/BOCES that are interested in participating in the School to Work Alliance Program (SWAP) for the state fiscal year 2020 beginning July 1, 2019.

SWAP is a collaboration between local education agencies, DVR and supported by CDE. It is designed to assist young adults in making the transition from school to employment, through career pathway development that can lead to successful post-school employment outcomes, increased community linkages, and the development of new patterns of service for young adults with disabilities.

The program supports current transition efforts, creates career pathways with pre-employment transition services, and provides case management for students
with disabilities who have mild to moderate needs in employment. Districts/BOCES that are interested or would like more information, please contact Katie Oliver at oliver_k@cde.state.co.us or 303-866-6701. Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, Feb. 8 to be considered.

Join the SLD Steering Committee
CDE is putting together a Specific Learning Deficiency (SLD) Steering Committee to address issues around SLDs. If you are interested in participating, please follow this link. CDE State Preschool Meeting
CDE's state preschool meeting dates are Feb. 27 - 28. A registration notice was sent to the field on Monday, Jan. 7. More information can be found on this flyer.

First Colorado Autism Conference
Join us this June 4-6 in Fort Collins for the first Colorado Autism Conference, co-sponsored by CDE and CSU. We are excited to announce that Dr. Laura Anthony, Associate Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine Children's Hospital, will be one of the keynote speakers. She is one of the co-authors of the book "Unstuck and On Target," which addresses executive functioning challenges for students with autism or ADHD. 

Also, Lindsey Nebeker and David Hamrick, from "Autism in Love," which aired on PBS, will keynote on their adventures and insights into the unique challenges and insights and what they have learned as a couple on the autism spectrum Registration fee will include breakfast, lunch, and parking.

Training and Professional Development

Second DHH regional meeting
In February CDE will host the second round of regional meetings for professionals working with students who are deaf or
hard of hearing. Each region will spend time exploring different assessment tools used in the field of deaf education and
time collaborating with neighboring districts about how specific tools are used by local IEP teams and how programming
decisions are made. This session will be hands-on and teams will have structured collaboration along with time to plan
for future needs. Locations and dates can be found on the statewide D/HH Calendar.

Culturally and Linguistically Responsive ASD Educational Identification
Four regional training sessions have been scheduled on the topic of Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Autism Spectrum Disorder Educational Identification. Online Course: Introduction to Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans
An eight-week course is being offered for school- and district-level teams to help develop a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) that identifies a student’s function of behavior for more effective Behavior Intervention Plans. By the end of the course, participating teams will be able to complete basic FBAs and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). The course provides a foundation for understanding FBAs and provides opportunity for practice in the completion of FBAs and BIPs. Support from instructors will be given in the form of a discussion board with no face-to-face opportunities provided. Completion of all IEP Record Reviews
The deadline for completion of all IEP record reviews using the Data Management System (DMS) is June 1.
