We've got a plan! Well, sort of...
After 4,000 miles and five months of riding round Japan, it's finally almost time to leave! We're excited to start the next stage of our trip... so here goes!
We want to double back on ourselves and ride through South and Southeast Asia from Nepal to New Zealand. But we're in Japan and it’s very expensive to ship backwards to India (at least £3,000). So, the new plan is to leave the bike here in storage for eight months (free, thanks to a very good guy) while we fly to Nepal, buy a couple of cheap old Enfields and ride Pakistan, India, Tibet and then make our way through Southeast Asia until August. This plan means that we will fly back to the UK soon for a couple of weeks to sort out our Pakistan visa.
In August we’ll sell our cheap bikes and fly from wherever we are back to Japan, pick up our bike and catch the ferry to South Korea and then stick it on a ship destined for Cambodia where we’ll eventually meet it and ride the rest of the way to Australia and New Zealand. Phew!
The benefits are that we’ll save well over £3k on shipping, save a load of money on compulsory guides through Myanmar (we won't need a guide as we'll be renting bikes there), save on a year’s worth of carnet paperwork (£1000 for a UK registered bike), get to see South Korea in summer (-9C at the moment) and we think (hope) it’s going to be fun trying new bikes the whole way to Cambodia!
Anyway, that’s the plan… let’s see if it works out!
Happy travels and thanks for sticking with us,
Andy and Alissa
