HELLO NEW YEAR, GOODBYE CHRISTMAS TREE
Recycle Your Live Christmas Tree at Ellenberger Park Through Jan 31
Give your Christmas tree a chipper sendoff to start the new year off right. Remember once the holidays are over you can recycle your Christmas tree by dropping it off at Ellenberger Park. Each year the Indianapolis Department of Public Works teams up with Indy Parks to offer several drop off sites throughout the city. You can drop off your tree free of any ornaments, lights or tinsel in a section of Ellenberger’s parking lost just east of the swimming pool in the main parking lot. Trees left at drop-off locations will be chipped and given to GreenCycle for proper disposal.

EARLY BIRD TICKETS FOR THE IRVIES, NOW THROUGH FRIDAY
The Irvies is a community award ceremony where businesses, neighbors, and our very own larger-than-life personalities are nominated and selected for awards demonstrating their unique talents, notorieties, and contributions to the greater good of Irvington. This IDO fundraiser will be hosted Saturday, February 23, at the Irvington Lodge (5515 E Washington St.). Highlighting the kind, active, admirable (and oftentimes quirky) do-gooders of our community, The Irvies main focus is to give thanks and recognition to those in our neighborhood who deserve it most. As individuals, businesses, nonprofits, clubs, and mostly – as valued neighbors, The Irvies gives back a little something (a flashy award and some stage time) to those who always give so much more.

GREAT INDY SEED SWAP
9AM – 1PM, Saturday, February 9th, Bona Thompson

This year's seed swap will be Saturday, Feb 9 from 9am to 1pm at the Bona Thompson. This is a FREE event, and there will be chili! If you are interested in selling seeds, tables are only $10. All proceeds go to the Bona Thompson Memorial Center. The most important thing to remember: BRING SEEDS. It doesn't matter what form they're in / what container they're in / how old they are / where you got them...  just as long as you think they'll grow. If you actually know what the name of the species is that's a big plus – knowledge is power! Click the button below to email Pete Kuhns, Organizer, The Great Indy Seed Swap to learn more.

PEDAL PROS – NEW BIKE RACK INSTALLATION
Check out the Irvington library to see the latest bike rack installation by some of our dedicated IDO volunteers! These secure bike racks (installed just before the start of the new year) empower the community to keep pedaling toward a healthier 2019 and beyond. Keep up the good work, read a book, and ride a bike (pretty simple, right?)!
NEW CHILDCARE PROGRAM – IRVINGTON ROOTS AND WINGS

A new child care ministry of Irvington Presbyterian Church, Irvington Roots and Wings, hopes to open near the end of January. Their intention is to reframe child care and education to inspire and empower children, their families, and teachers. It is intended to provide full time, year-round care and education for up to 14 children ranging in age from six weeks to Pre-K.  Irvington Roots and Wings hopes to focus on children and families who live or work in the Irvington area and near-east side. Irvington Roots and Wings will be located in a double across from IPC and will have direct access to the adjacent playground, and is committed to providing a safe and inspiring space for students to become good learners (and good friends) as they go on to Kindergarten.

Irvington Roots and Wings will have a strong social and emotional thread running throughout their program:  modeling strategies and helping students understand they are capable of expressing and managing how they feel. Their hope is also to get out into the community on walking field trips with five or six "older" students to investigate and learn more about our neighborhood and neighbors. Their goal will always be for everyone to understand how each of us affect each other, our families, our community, and our world.
