JANUARY 2019
Alumni Update

Dear Alumni,

Happy New Year to all of you!

There are a few events on the horizon that would not be the same without a strong alumni presence. The first is the Ceili and the more recently introduced addition of a chili dinner to complement the evening, on Sunday, January 20th. We would love to have you there to embolden the dancers! It would also a great excuse for you to catch up with each other.

Friday, February 15th is our Midwinter Festival. We know that for some of you this ends up falling on a PD day or during your reading week. It has now become a bit of a tradition to have a panel of alumni judges. We love having you back for this, and it is wonderful to have some impartial (!) judges.

I pray that this year will see you discovering more of the gifts and talents that God has blessed you with and finding how to use them in His service.

Dear Alumni-

It is Monday, January 7th, the first day back at school after the Christmas break. I expect you can all picture the scene well. After noisy greetings in the halls, students quietened as they filed into chapel. The Advent candles were lit once again, this time with the white Christ candle burning brightly at the centre. We gathered to sing, “We three kings of Orient are…” and of course, our eight SK students joined in extra loudly for the chorus…”O-h…star of wonder, star of light…”

As you remember well, January is the month when the work in Term 1 is handed in, and the spectre of report cards and applications to high school occupy the minds of graduating students. It is also the happy time of skating at the rink and dreaming up costumes for the mid-winter festival in February. At this time of the year, teachers smile to see the boys’ grey dress pants becoming capris and the Grade 4 girls looking ready to trade in their grey tunics once and for all.

You might be surprised how often we speak warmly of you all. We are grateful to have watched you pass through those awkward early grades when small crises yielded many tears, to seeing you as the lovely young adults you are today. Thank you for the many ways that you have come back to help us out… at the Skipathon and the track meet, cataloguing books in the library, performing and serving at the fundraising dinner, or reading with students. We look forward to seeing many of you at the Ceili or in the coming months at one of our special events. It is always good to see you again.

May God continue to bless you with wisdom and grace in all that you do.

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. "
