Now accepting memberships for 2019 with CAPO


The Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology (CAPO) is now accepting renewals and new members for 2019! We hope you will be part of the CAPO family in the new year, as it will help us continue our quest to promote capacity for, and excellence in, psychosocial oncology services to enhance the wellness of individuals and families. Details on the types of memberships available, as well as how to activate for 2019, are listed below.


Membership types:

  • Full membership (Regular) is open to individuals with a university degree or registration, certification or other accreditation in a recognized profession who is involved in or interested in psychosocial oncology.
  • Student member is a full time student studying in a discipline related to psychosocial oncology or a member who has returned to study in an academic program, irrespective of the level of education being pursued. 
  • An Affiliate member is a member of the public, an organization, an agency or supplier of goods and services related to psychosocial oncology. 
  • A Retired member is an individual who has been a Full/Regular member in the past and has retired from psychosocial oncology.

2019 CAPO Membership Pricing:

  • Full/Regular Member: $150 CDN
  • Student: $60 CDN 
  • Affiliate Member: $60 CDN
  • Retired Member: $60 CDN

HOW TO JOIN OR RENEW - three simple options:

  1. Renew online today (open to 2018 members)! It’s quicker, easier and you’ll receive an instant receipt.
    • Log in to the CAPO website
    • Under Renew Now, click on "Manage Account".
    • From there, click on "Renew to 15 Jan 2020." Follow the directions displayed from there.
  2. You can also request an emailed PDF copy of your renewal. Please send your request to membership@capo.ca with your first and last name.

Cancer and Nutrition Myths

Callie Gross, Registered Dietitian from the Supportive Care Program at the Northeast Cancer Centre

This webinar will address various nutrition myths such as: sugar feeding cancer, alkaline diet, detox diet, ketogenic diet, organic, supplement use, and superfoods. It will provide evidenced based nutrition information and provide resources that are reliable and up-to-date.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Bust nutrition related myths commonly seen in the media
  • Provide evidenced based nutrition information to inform practice with oncology patients
  • Educate professionals to know when to refer to a Registered Dietitian

Call for 2019 Pre-Conference Workshop Submissions - Submit by January 31


The Scientific Committee for 21st World Congress of Psycho-Oncology is now accepting proposals for pre-conference academy workshops. Psycho-oncology researchers and clinicians are invited to submit proposals to host pre-conference academy workshops. All workshops will be held on Monday September 23, 2019. Proposals are being accepted for full and half day workshops.
 
Workshop proposals are due by January 31, 2019.

Call for CAPO Board Nominations - Submit by April 1


This is to inform you that the Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology (CAPO) is issuing a Call for Nominations for election to the Board of Directors. Positions are available for the following discipline groups:
  • Medicine
  • Rehabilitation Services
  • Spiritual/pastoral Care
  • Nursing

Click here to review details that outline the steps to follow to nominate a CAPO member to stand for election to the Board.  You must comply with the instructions to ensure that the names you submit are accepted for nomination. Nominations MUST be received by the Nominating Committee Chairperson no later than APRIL 1, 2019. The election will be held immediately subsequent to the close of the nomination procedure.
 
Candidates for board positions should be aware that as an elected board member, there will be an obligation to attend monthly board conference calls and participate in one to two in-person meetings per year. The next in-person meeting will be held on September 22, 2019 in Banff, Alberta, preceding the 2019 CAPO/IPOS conference.
