Dear Oenophile,
Traditionally speaking in a blind tasting, an indicator of whether a wine is from the Old World or the New World depends on how fruit forward it is. The New World tends to have a warmer climate, as well as a preference towards more fruit forward flavors. The Old World generally produces wine that taste almost ripe, with heaps of tertiary flavors. White wines of the Old World are tighter, with extreme longevity, and usually have a more mineral component.
This is true for White Burgundy, Riesling from Germany, and White Rhone blends from Rhone, despite the fundamental style differences of each. We have a massive collection of delicious Old World whites, browse through today!
Cheers!
