Badger unveils Level Method for members

BCF is proud to roll out Level Method, an innovate way to gauge and improve your fitness, starting Jan 7. Level Method is an accurate fitness based level system, designed to systematically assess, address, rank and progress athletes on their abilities in 15 different well-rounded areas. This creates tangible, achievable and incremental goals in the process. If you haven't already, take a look at the Level Method map on the wall in the mobility area. For more information on the process, watch Coach Tyler's explanation here and learn how it will change the way you focus and improve your fitness at Badger.

Did you miss the Level Method email, which hit your inbox Dec 28? Read it here to learn how to set up your Level Method account and what to expect for programming.

PAST EVENTS

CrossFit hosts Rowing Cert at BCF

CrossFit staff brought in their rowing knowledge and expertise during their Erg Specialty Course at Badger on Oct 13. The course gave participants the opportunity to maximize skill and familiarity with rowing on a Concept2 ergometer, an important component of many CrossFit workouts. The day was spent learning rowing technique for optimal power and efficiency, and programming CrossFit workouts. At the end of the certification clinic, participants earned their CrossFit Rowing certification.

Aiming to educate members, a recent Technique Tuesday gave an overview of the rowing skills participants learned. Learn more here.

Athletes dominate Ski-Erg Challenge

BCF members practiced their technique during November's Ski-Erg Challenge, designed to get ready for winter sports, work more "anterior" chain instead of "posterior" chain, and of course FOR FUN!

The tied winners for the most consistent entries were Jenny Westphal and Antoniya Nikolova with 20 days of SkiErging! The winner for the most meters is, again Jenny Westphal, with a whopping 118,615 meters! Close behind is Phil Monnier with 116,495 meters!

Jenny, Toni and Phil each received a $30 gift card to Sunburst Winter Sports Park.

Trooper storms Halloween costume contest

Congratulations to Tony Soyak for winning our Costume WOD contest, held for all classes the weekend before Halloween. Tony scored tickets to a Bucks game in their new arena! Way to go!

November Coat Drive keeps MKE warm

Thanks to all who donated to our November Winter Coat Drive, collecting winter coats, hats, mittens, scarves and boots for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. We were able to bring more than five garbage bags FULL of cold-weather gear for the city's needy this chilly season.

November Air Bike Challenge pedals in success

Thanks to everyone who participated in the November Air Bike challenge, where the goal was to get at least 1000 cal for the men and 820 for the ladies. Congratulations to Dawn Grulke, who topped the females with 2042 cal, and Matt DeSorbo, who topped the males with 1662 cal. Both received a free class pass to Powercycle in Wauwatosa. Way to go!

Classic BCF "Turkey Trot" honors Clovis

In its seventh year, athletes took on “Clovis” (10-mile run and 150 burpee pull ups), which is Badger's version of the classic Turkey Trot.

Clovis is a Hero WOD honoring U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Clovis T. Ray, 34, of San Antonio, TX. He was killed on March 15, 2012, in Kunar province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Christmas party spreads holiday cheer

As the year came to a close, Badger celebrated the holiday season with its annual Christmas party Dec 8 at Firefly. Thank you to all who donated to our raffle this year, both donors and ticket holders. We were able to raise $456 for Infant Swim Resource, a program which teaches survival swim skills to kids 6 months to 6 years. To date, more than 300,000 children have taken the program. Badger matched the donation dollar-for-dollar and was able to donate $912 to this life-saving organization.

During the Christmas party, Badger also gave out its annual member awards to athletes who demonstrated an outstanding representation of their respected awards during 2018. Read our award blog post to see the winners.

Save the date for our 2019 Christmas party Dec 13 at Firefly!

14 teams throw down during Reindeer Games

A great morning of “fitmas” as Badger athletes threw down during our Reindeer Games in-house competition, Dec 13. Fourteen teams of four (two male, two female) competed in three workouts designed for function and fun.

Congratulations to 3rd place winners: Team J (Travis Lepera, Kim Lepera, Ashley Ferguson, Tom Vechey); 2nd place winners: Team BBBB (Blake Nold, Brett Schmitz, Lyndsay Zwirlein, Tina Martin); and 1st place winners Team G (Jarrod Pelkofer, Peter Gerhardt, Mary Pelkofer, Sam Carstens).

After the throwdown, athletes participated in a gift exchange and scored stellar presents like a hot dog cutter and a machete. The morning ended with Christmas cookies and coffee.

Special thanks to Craig Daemmrich for taking the event's photos.

Badger adopts a family for Christmas

Thanks to everyone who helped make the holidays a little brighter for one Milwaukee family through our adopt-a-family event. This year, Badger adopted a family of 10 (2 sets of twins) through Next Door - Milwaukee, a non-profit organization providing early childhood education for MKE children and their families.

Because of your generosity, we were able to provide each family member with six presents! Thanks to member Linda Pedraza, who donated a much-needed fridge and to Coach Joe and member Jed Mathis for picking up and delivering the item. Also, thank you to member Rose Kolupar who donated a TV, which the family did not have.

Thanks for spreading the love!

Christmas WOD made BCF merry and bright

Thanks to everyone who came out for our annual 12 Days of Christmas workout, and for donning their most festive gear. The workout, usually slated right before Dec 25, consists of movements which correlate to the traditional 12 Days of Christmas song (ex: 1 front squat, 2 box jumps, 3 pull ups, etc). The grande finale is the 12 oz beer to drink before completing the final round of movements. Fun was had by all!

Bootcamp winds down, winds up with 19.1

The year's last bootcamp was a success! After 6 weeks, participants of the 18.4 session lost a total of 103 pounds, 11.1 percent body fat, 18.5 box mass index and 124.75 inches!

Badger CrossFit's Bootcamp 19.1 started Jan 7 with Head Coach Tina and Assistant Head Coach Joe. For six weeks, participants will not only work out, but learn the importance of healthy and clean eating. Coach Tina, a certified life coach, also gives participants an opportunity to work on any life issues that may be keeping them from progress. Stay tuned for dramatic results!

Join Badger's Committed Club

The Committed Club is a public showing of your commitment to fitness and health through consistency. In 2018, to be a part of the committed club, you had to RSVP and check in to Zen Planner at BCF 20 times or more in one month. This included FUNCTION, CrossFit and the Weightlifting Club (not Mobility or Open Gym).

At the end of each month, BCF listed everyone who made it on the Web site along with the number of times attended/checked-in next to their name. BCF selected one athlete at random from this list for a special little prize.

New for 2019:

  • Members now need to RSVP and check in to Zen Planner at BCF 15 times or more in one month.
  • At the end of each month, we will list everyone who made it on our website and on social media. For each month you are on the committed club, you will be entered in a raffle to get a $50 credit towards either your membership or retail.
  • If you make it in 3 months in a row (quarterly), you will be entered in the raffle again for two $50 credits!
  • If you make it in 12 months (yearly), you will be guaranteed a custom, limited edition Committed Club t-shirt, PLUS entered into a yearly raffle of a free month of membership (up to $150)

For more information about the new Committed Club, see our blog post here.

Building Updates

BCF recently traded the framed platforms for matted, versatile space. This means more floor room for Function classes without sacrificing the much-needed Oly lifting area. Enjoy!
