HAPPY 2019! We’re over a week into 2019 and back on the road in our RV.
We took a little “vacation” from the road and stayed in Aaron’s sisters driveway for a two week “moochdocking” stay in Calimesa, California. Aaron maneuvered our massive rig into the space on the side of her house like a pro! We were able to get our bedroom slides fully open, so we had our own beds to sleep in at night, but we kept the kitchen and living room slides in because we couldn’t get them fully open. We got to spend so much time with family during this time and it was WONDERFUL! It was also wonderful having access to a large kitchen and full sized washer and dryer! (The things I miss most about my sticks and bricks house!)
Meeting New Family
We got to meet our niece, Mya, and nephew, Pierson, for the first time, which was super special for us. They are the sweetest two kids ever! We got to stroll along Laguna Beach with Grandma and Grandpa, visit Knott’s Berry Farm (twice) and even attend a huge extended family Christmas Eve party! We hiked up Mount Rubideux, and spent lots of time playing cornhole and making smores in the back yard. Over a 7 day span, Aaron was lucky enough to run into not 1, not 2, but THREE all-time baseball greats! (Mark McGwire, Albert Pujols, and Darryl Strawberry… now he’s waiting to see when he’ll unexpectedly bump into Mike Trout!)
Truck Troubles...At Least We Weren't Pulling The RV!
During our Christmas/New Years break, our beloved 2014 Ford F350 gave us some frustrations… ALL of the digital sensor notification thingies on the dash went haywire and started flashing (the truck was driving totally fine though), so we turned off the truck to see if it would “reset” it, but it made it worse...now the truck would't start! Did I mention this happened at a red light on PCH in Laguna Beach at rush hour?? We got it towed to the grandparents house, only to have it start right up AS SOON as it was dropped off!! The mechanic we brought it to afterward couldn’t find anything wrong with it, and it has been running fine ever since... Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen again.
New Blog Posts Are Up!
I was able to get some writing done and catch up on some blog posts I’d been meaning to publish! I actually really enjoyed looking back through pics and remembering the fun times we had at Carlsbad Caverns, Guadelupe Mountains National Park , White Sands National Monument, and our short boondocking stay near the California border (posts are full of cool pics!)
New Work For Lauren While On The Road
- I was also able to write my first article for RV Repair Club, a site which offered us a job doing some writing and videos for them. I will link once it’s officially posted!
- We were featured in a short video about our family and another family who travels full time in an RV. It was just released and you can watch that HERE!
- Last but not least, we were asked to be on a YouTube talk show this month! Liz Wilcox and her family are also full time RVers, so we are excited to join them on their channel. Liz has written a hilarious book, Tales From The Black Tank, has a really successful blog, The Virtual Campground, and just started up a live YouTube show that airs every Tuesday at 8PM EST! You should subscribe to her channel and be on the lookout for us later this month!
Our Current Location
We are currently in Acton, CA in the Los Angeles County mountains and it’s GORGEOUS! We’re staying at the Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon resort, and I’m kicking myself for not making our reservation longer than a week! We went to Vasquez Rocks today, will spend tomorrow in Santa Monica and Venice… but I’ll let you read all about that next time! After our week here, it’s back to family, then Big Bear, San Diego, Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs are just a few upcoming destinations for us! It’s safe to say we love California. Partly because of the beauty, but mostly because of family.
