Important Notices

ChurchSuite

Over the next several months, we will be transitioning our church database to ChurchSuite. ChurchSuite is a web-based church management system that will help us in the office with our church address book, rotas, church calendar and more.

We are currently transitioning our rotas to ChuchSuite, so if you currently serve on a team, please watch out for an email from St Nics ChurchSuite (the first one may go to your junk folder.) Feel free to contact the office with any questions.

We are excited about this new system and the organisation it brings!

Alpha

Our Alpha course begins 23 January! You are invited for a time of great food, even better conversation and talks that make you think. Alpha is an eight-week course to explore life and the Christian faith.

Day and Time: Wednesdays at 6.30pm starting 23 January (ends with one Saturday session on 16 March)

Monthly Prayer

Prayer is important for our church and our personal relationship with God. To help us start with prayer in all things, we are launching a prayer evening on the first Monday of each month. Our first prayer evening is on 4 February from 7-9pm at St Nics. Feel free to come and go as it suits your schedule. It will be a relaxed environment with different prayer prompts and stations.

New St Nics Families Facebook Page

This group is a positive online forum for families at St Nics. It is a place to bless others with uplifting bible passages, resources and links to other websites. It is also a place to ask for prayer requests and practical help as well as keeping up to date with all the family related events at church. Join the Facebook group here.

Youth Worker

We are looking for a part-time Youth Worker (20 hours/week) to disciple and lead our secondary-aged children and young people. Details can be found on our website. Please pray that God will call the right person to be part of our church.
Discovery at Nics is a space to learn, explore, and discover more about God, your neighbour, and yourself. From January, we will be having our 4pm service only on the first and third Sunday's of the month. The first will be our family service and the third Sunday we will continue our Theology for All series.

January 20 - Theology for All
Come and listen to Dr. Richard Briggs, Lecturer in Old Testament and Director of Biblical Studies of St John's College at Durham University speak on "The Old Testament: The Greatest Prequel of All Time".

February 3 - Family Service
The next family service theme is Rescued, and we will be looking at the story of the woman at the well. These services are full of fun, food and church family--all are welcome!

Big Bin Thank You

As we begin a New Year, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Big Bin project over the last year: we have given out over 1,250 bags of food and provided emotional support for many people who experience destitution following the asylum process in our diocese. This would not be possible without the continuing and faithful giving of food - and cash gifts - every week of the year! This is an amazing expression of Christian love and it is a privilege to work with you all in this project. Please continue to give tomatoes, rice, cooking oil, tinned tuna, pasta and rice to the Big Ben, which is at the entrance of St Nics, and Jeanette, Dianne and I will be able to continue to distribute these every Friday afternoon to those who are in most need. - Fiona Cuthill

Space Academy Holiday Club 2019

Holiday Club for Space Explorers from reception to Y6!
Monday 18th - Friday 22nd February, 10am-12:30pm each day.

We are still in need of creche volunteers--you can do one day or the whole week. We also need a decoration team to set-up before the Holiday Club starts. Please email Kate to volunteer.

To register, please email stnicsholidayclub@gmail.com
If you would like more information, please contact Kate Swann.

St. Nics Daily Prayer Diary

Sunday – For our leaders that they may carry the weight of responsibility with wisdom and grace. For the leaders of the nations, for our Archbishops, for Bishop Paul, Bishop Elect Sarah as she prepares for her installation as Bishop of Jarrow, and the diocesan leadership team.

Monday – For those in physical or spiritual poverty. For the homeless and rough sleepers in Durham. That we may recognise Christ in them and have both the wisdom and courage to respond with love and justice.

Tuesday – For the work of the Recovery Group. For Tim & Fay Biddlecombe who lead it, those who attend and for Dick Swarbrick and others on the support group. For those who suffer from and battle with addiction.

Wednesday – Pray for Alison Morton, Jeff Hatton and the work of the Coffee Lounge and all the volunteers and guests who attend.

Thursday – Pray for The Gateway Shop & Trust, for Hazel, Ruth and Helen and the others who work in the shop. For those who are supported through the work of Gateway and the presence of the shop as a sign of justice.

Friday – Pray for all our small groups including StuBS/TAP, women’s groups and youth small groups.

Saturday – For Cranmer Hall, those who lead, teach and study there. For those discerning a call to ordained ministry and those both lay and ordained struggling with the ministry to which they are called. That God might strengthen them in their walk and discipleship.
