January 09, 2019

Happy new year from Startup Digest Galway - the startup news and events calendar for Galway.

Focus on planning for the early part of 2019:

- The first Innovation Voucher call of the year opens Wednesday 9th January with a closing date of Wednesday 23rd January at 3pm, 2019

- CSF Call #59 All Sectors opens on 29th January and closes on 13th February. The EI website states that 'No sector specific calls to the fund will be launched in 2019. Additional All Sectors calls may be launched later in the year.'

- Local Enterprise Week takes place from March 4th to March 8th 2019. Hundreds of events will be organised by our LEO colleagues in Mayo, Galway and Roscommon.

- InterTrade Ireland's Venture Capital Conference takes place on 7th March in Croke Park.

- DublinBIC's Futurescope takes place on March 28th in the National Convention Centre - super-early-bird tickets available until 11th January just €89 (full price €149). Great line-up of speakers.

- New Frontiers Phase 1 @ GMIT iHubs Workshop 1 takes place on Saturday 6th April. Applications to Programme Manager

And finally, i spotted some End of Year Review articles worth mentioning.

a. Congrats to GMIT iHub - Maria Staunton - on launch of second cycle of Empower (Connaught Telegraph article)

b. Well done to all involved in NUI Galway Startup Scene for securing €35 Million in investment in 2018 as per this IrishTechNews article. Followed up news from Whiteswell (€26.5 million) and announcement by EnteraSense (€3.5 million) so far this year.

c. More good news for Galway as Galway City Innovation District secures €2.5 million for follow on to the PorterShed from Regional Economic Development Fund.

Great start to 2019 but Brexit remains a big concern so the Revenue Cusoms event in The Salthill Hotel on the 15th is timely.

Best wishes

How to Work Remotely without Sacrificing Culture

True or false? Remote companies have a harder time building culture than co-located companies. False! You can work remotely without sacrificing culture. Infinite Red has been fully remote for four years, and we’ve learned a thing or six about what it takes to travel the road less commuted. The Remote Work Handbook is a complete field guide to growing, hiring, scaling and leading a fully remote company.
