Interim Chair's Message
As the new Interim Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy I would like to first wish you a Happy New Year. The main purpose of my message today is to provide you with information on the department’s new organizational structure and upcoming activities related to accreditation, faculty recruitment and the new curriculum.
The Department will have a co-leadership model with myself as Chair responsible for overall administration of the department and research. I have been appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Trevor Young, for a two-year term ending December 2020. I am joined by Prof. Sharon Switzer-McIntyre as Program Director and Prof. Brenda Mori, Associate Program Director. Sharon will lead accreditation and be responsible for the overall MScPT program including admissions, unit operations, continuous quality improvement and continuing education. Brenda will lead clinical education and faculty development and contribute to the program’s quality improvement efforts through curriculum renewal and accreditation.
Our first order of business is to address the issues raised in the Accreditation Review and Status Report by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC). We plan to submit a progress report by the end of February. To gather data for this report, we will be soliciting your feedback through surveys, focus groups and letters. I encourage you to participate.
There is exciting news on the faculty front. I would like to welcome Dr. Euson Yeung as a new full-time teaching stream faculty member. We will also be conducting searches this year for two new tenure-stream faculty, one with research expertise in complex comorbidity and another in critical disability and gerontology.
We have made great strides in updating the MScPT curriculum. I am pleased to announce that we will implement the new curriculum in September 2019! There are several webinars and faculty development workshops planned throughout the year that I invite you to attend.
As I start in this new role, I look forward to meeting and interacting with many of you and welcome your feedback.
Kind regards,
Susan Jaglal, PhD FCAHS
Professor and Interim Chair
Department of Physical Therapy
