Photography Resources: Places to Grow, Share and Gain Perspective
In addition to some pointers on the website about collecting photography, here are additional resources I have put in place to make the art of photography interesting, meaningful and accessible.
Here is a recent blog post with some reading about photography The pictures in the newsletter show you some of my photography books, in case you are looking for a good book. Books are interesting gateways to learning and for gaining an appreciation for photography, as are visits to museums and galleries.
PhotoNexus 2019: I am currently working on a salon-like weekend event in July for 15-20 photography enthusiasts, collectors and photographers. This event is for people who love the medium and want to learn more. It will be an opportunity to share and learn about the art of photography and is being designed to be an experience that delivers knowledge, fun and value. The event will include several special guest/experts in the field of photography such as an established “professional” collector, a photography gallerist, a museum curator and other photographers. There will be discussions, gallery visits and a “photo walk” with the photographers to further hone your skills or get a behind-the-scenes look at the photographers’ craft. There will be a registration fee to cover the costs of the event. If you want to know more and get your name on the invite list, please email me at Richard@binhammerphotographs.com
"Collecting Photography" magazine on Flipboard: If you use Flipboard on your phone or tablet, you might want to check out and follow a magazine I curate titled “Collecting Photography.” I attempt to be judicious about the content that I aggregate with a focus on topics such as tips for collecting photography, insights from collectors of photography or gallerists, as well as some historical perspectives and current exhibits.
The Facebook Group, Photography Collecting: is an online community for sharing information about photographic art. Examples of the topics in this group include: the ongoing debate “is photography art”; features on the masters of photography; and, considerations for critical viewing of photographs. While the Facebook group is a “closed group” (i.e. you have to ask to join it), I approve people quickly and spammers get booted equally quickly. This group is an opportunity to interact and share with others.
