Media Highlights Featuring USC Leonard Davis Experts

Smithsonian Magazine highlighted research by Jennifer Ailshire of the USC Leonard Davis School about the increase in inadequate sleep among Americans. “Poor sleep is a canary in the coal mine – we will see worse health outcomes as a result,” she said. KPCC-FM’s AirTalk with Larry MantleVentura County StarHealthDay, and WebMD also highlighted Ailshire's research, which found that 28.6 percent of respondents self-reported inadequate sleep in 2004, compared to 32.9 percent in 2017.

Vox quoted Valter Longo of the USC Leonard Davis School on how intermittent fasting can have long-term health benefits. Outside Magazine highlighted their deputy editor’s experience with the fasting-mimicking diet ProLon, which Longo created. Economic Times (India)Goop, and Daily Mail (UK) also cited Longo’s research on the benefits of a fasting-mimicking diet. Next Avenue featured Longo's recent book, The Longevity Diet, in an article on six health books to read in 2019.

Reuters quoted Jon Pynoos of the USC Leonard Davis School about what features can help older adults age comfortably in their own homes. “In a home with two or more stories, stacking closets that could later be replaced with a small elevator might be a good investment,” Pynoos said. “Basically, plan ahead.”

Los Angeles Times featured a new 10-week series of free classes on mindful eating hosted at the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. The sessions will be led by Megan Tancredi, a graduate student at the USC Leonard Davis School, and Verdugo Hills Hospital Clinical Nutrition Manager Stephanie Wood.
